Hello community,
Just joined. I’ve recently purchased a Hasegawa 1/450 Akagi Aircraft carrier. I found it at a garage sale, brand new never opened for $20 , couldn’t pass it up. Last few days I’ve been desperately searching for a wooden deck, with 0 success. I found this when I did a search, " * Aftermarket Options: Several third-party, specialized detail-up manufacturers produce wooden decks for the 1/450 Akagi, often sold in sets that include photo-etched metal parts for the flight deck and, occasionally, the hull "
I’m hoping someone can offer me some insight into possibly a location that can do custom wood decks.
Thank you in advance for any help anyone can offer
Kindest regards Leo
Sorry,I did some digging myself and I couldnt find any. That is a vintage kit,I guess since they came out with their 1/350 kit,the AM stuff isn’t so much in demand.
Hopefully something pops for you.
Hey thx , i have uad the same out come. Im still on the hunt. Reaching to see if any one can down size the 350 .
Your effort is much appreciated
I’ve never heard of a wooden deck for that kit but I know Gold Metal Models make an excellent photo etch detail set for that puppy. I also know they went out of business a few years ago though you still may be able to find it on eBay and I’m pretty sure they sold their designs to another company (white ensign?) so it may still be out there.
Edit: Just checked eBay, no joy last one sold Jan10th only other sale was March of 2025 both for about $53+shipping.
Regardless - good score on the kit for $20
GMM sold out to Squadron.. Squadron does carry some of their inventory but not everything…
There never was a wood deck for that kit and at one point it was the top of the chain as far as the Akagi goes… But with the release of her in 1/350 scale then demand dried up… She can be had very cheaply nowadays when you can find one…
Hi jagdiv…
That sounds just like the Artificial Intelligence spiel I get when I do a generic search on the web…
They say it’s available, (aftermarket sets are available) but they don’t mention any specifics like manufacturers or sellers so you can track it down…
Your best bet for finding Aftermarket is Scalemates… most all model manufacturers know to look to scalemates first to get their stuff out there… Generally if it isn’t on scalemates, it doesn’t exist… (there are exceptions of course, but they are very rare)
I definitely check scalemate. Fingers crossed
Thx much appreciated
