1/350 scale ships

Hi, can someone tell me about all the new stuff coming out in 1/350 scale ships? What are the proposed release dates, too?
Thanks,
Dave

Well, let’s see…

Trumpter has a USS Lexington CV-2 coming out in a couple of weeks.
Their USS North Carolina will be here in May, give or take a week or two.

Hasegawa has annouced a 1/350 Mikasa.
Eastern Express has just released a 1/350 Borodino.
Someone else is releasing a 1/350 subject that I’m sworn to secrecy on, and no subtle hints this time either!!

That’s all I know.

Jeff

Don’t forget the Russian Cruiser Varyag by Zvezda

i think somebody mentioned trumpeter doing/planning the hms hood in 1:350 elsewhere in the ‘ships’ forum. jeff, if you know of any appropriate “suggestion boxes” please stuff with requests for graf spee, akagi, kaga, hiryu, and soryu all in 1:350. and if that works, i have further suggestions. [:D]

Me too, the Nagato class battleships, please [:D]

Yes, and a USS Texas too !! [C):-)]

The best suggestion box I can recommend is when FSM does it’s survey on the kit’s you want to see. I’m pretty sure we run it in the late-summer, early fall. It gives you the chance to list those kits you’d like to see. I like to think we’ve been pretty successful, since several of the kits that have topped the list in previous years have appeared, namely:

1/350 Essex Class (Trumpeter)
1/350 North Carolina Class (Trumpeter)
1/350 Lexington (Trumpeter)
1/350 Nimitz (Trumpeter)
1/700 Essex Class (Dragon)
1/48 RA-5 Vigilante (Trumpeter)
1/32 F-105 (Trumpeter)
1/35 M551 Sheridan (Academy)
1/32 Fw-190 series (Hasegawa)

Notice any trends here?? So far, in the ship world at least, the only request that hasn’t been met yet is the HMS Hood, and of course, we all know about those rumors.

Jeff

“There’s something wrong with our bloody ships today!” Where are the Dreadnaughts in that list? Do we not all love those gargantuan steel monsters as much as T-Rex? Obsolete? Not in our imaginations and wild dreams of surface naval actions gone by. I give you my 1:350 nominations:

  1. SMS Von der Tann
  2. Kirov (Nuclear Battlecruiser)
  3. USS Washington
  4. USS Oklahoma
  5. Gearing Class destroyer
  6. Tribal Class destroyer
  7. SMS Seydlitz
  8. French liner Normandie
  9. NS Savannah

Et Vous?

IJN Akagi
IJN Kongo
IJN Hiei
USS South Dakota
USS Minneapolis
HMS King George V
IJN Kaga
USS Gambier Bay
USS Cleveland
IJN Myoko
IJN Aoba
IJN Kitikami
Scharnhorst
Prinz Eugen

Oh, almost forgot - right near the top of my list:
IJN Shokaku or Zuikaku

  1. 1/350 Essex class (Modernize angle deck)
  2. 1/350 USS Alaska

John

I thought Iron Shipwright already made an Alaska. Or is it not a good quality one and we would prefer a Trumpter?

You have a choice…a $120 plastic ship kit, or a $400 resin kit. Gimme the plastic.

Between MBT, Winks, and Badbird, seven of your kits are coming that I’m aware of. Yes, there’s Axis stuff in there as well.

As for WW1 ships, until they run out of hot-topic WW2 vessels, chances are we’re not going to see WW1 stuff in any great quantity. Reason? These kits STILL have to show a profit. Whether we like it or not, that’s the truth behind all this.

Jeff

I’ll take plastic.

John

I guess I’ll have to go resin for my German Jutland battlecruiser. I know Seydlitz is out there somewhere in 1:350, but VDT will be a stretch. Heck … I have the old girl in 1:1250 pewter … maybe Rick Moranis will lend me his shrink/grow raygun from the movie …

Would you be more happy if I told you that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, is doing a WW1 German battlecruiser in plastic?

Yes, it’s true. What ship? Can’t tell. Who’s making it? Can’t tell. Is it a rumor? Nope, came straight from the manufacturer. When’s it due? I have no clue. Will you like it? Probably, I know I’ll be buying one, or two, or three.

That’s all you’re getting from me.

Jeff

I’m smiling … real big. And I’m a patient man …

Thanx, Jeff
