1/350 Open Chocks

Hello my fellow ship modelers. I am looking for a vendor who has 1/350 open chocks in stock for purchase, can anyone in the forum help me? More specific, I am actually looking for resin USN Chocks but I would even consider generic open chocks.

Hunting for resin or 3D chocks not PE as they do not look accurate in scale. If I cannot get a solution here I may try to make my own with solder (?).

I do know that Scalemates has generic open chocks by Corsair Armada, but they do not have enough in stock (and haven’t for some time). AVR Model also has some made by L’Arsenal but they only come with 5 in an assortment of other chocks @ 6 pounds per set. At that rate I would have to get 5 packs to get enough open chocks. That is 30 pounds plus shipping, or around $55.00 USD!

There was a discussion about this befiore, in 1/700. Yep, cost seemed to be really high.

I’d proposed an idea to make them- not great but ok.

Try making one or two and then make a mold and cast the rest with 5 minute epoxy. You’ll probably need to cast them on their sides, and apply the epoxy with a pin, chasing out the bubbles in the process. Buff them with an emery board to round them. Just make sure you degrease them well before trying to CA them in place.

I made sets of bitts that way, and used soldering flux as a release agent.

There are a couple sets of closed chocks in 1/350 on Shapeways. Perhaps you can buy those and modify them to open?

The listed Shapeways products are scaled for destroyers, which are about 1/2 to 3/4th the size of those you need. So you might want to check on slightly larger scale (1/300 - 1/250) or maybe even 1/200 due to the fact you need them for a battleship.

What size ship aer you building?

DD open chocks are not the same a BB, CA, CL, etc.

Not that I’m seeing a lot of variety in AM for 1/350.

At 1/192, all sorts of options. Sigh

Drums, check this out, it might just be the ticket.

These are Shapeways ‘Z’ scale (1/220) chocks and bitts, and from the picture (theirs) the fittings look pretty close to what you are looking for. And, the price ain’t too bad either.

Then, all you have to do is open the top of the chock.
