I’m looking to purchase this kit in the near future and was wondering if anyone has reveiwed it yet. First Hobby has it listed at about $88.00. Does anyone else have a better price? Any comments on quality of molding etc. would be greatly appreciated.

There’s a fairly detailed review of it on the Steel Navy website, www.steelnavy.com .

I got a look inside the box at our last model club meeting. (One of the other members had bought it.) It looked to me like a pretty spectacular kit. I was especially impressed with the fact that such parts as the 16" turrets and 5" gunhouses were molded in multiple pieces, so they have 3-dimensional detail on all surfaces. Such things as the radar screens, cranes, and catapults really cry out to be replaced by photo-etched parts, but this kit looks to me like one of the best ever.

I agree with the professor on this one. I’m in the middle of building it for an FSM review in an upcoming issue. It’s not going to be a 3-day build, but so far everything has gone together very well.

I would definitely recommend photoetch for it, from any one of the big three producers, WEM, Tom’s and GMM. The kit lacks PE, so you’ll need to decide which set you want if you choose to add the details.
