1/350 kits we all would like to see!

Well, it is that time once again to put our best requests forward! While many on this forum feel that this is a waste of time, it is important to note how many wonderful kits have been produced in the last year! And along this line, I think it is important that we all recognise the splendid work that has been done by the various kit manufacturers over the past year! During this time, we have seen the launch of not only the full class of ‘Takao’ cruisers by Aoshima, but a 1/350 ‘Kongo’ by not only Fujimi, but by Aoshima as well! And don’t forget the Hasegawa contributions of ‘Nagato’ and ‘Mutsu,’ and even Revell of Germany got into the act by producing a splendid update of ‘Bismarck’! Future offerings of ‘Ise,’ ‘Haguro’ and even ‘Shokaku’ intidacte that 2009 is going to be even better! Finally I would like to hand out sincere thanks to Dragon for the ‘Buchanan’ destroyer, Hasegawa for the ‘Yukikaze,’ and finally, the highest rewards and recognition to Trumpeter, for it’s fearless driving forward of the 1/350 scale for ships, with the launch of ‘Richelieu,’ and (hopefully!) ‘HMS Repulse,’ and the heavy cruiser, ‘Prinz Eugen!!!’

All that said, more kits are desired and needed, and based upon the success of previous efforts, here is your chance to make your requests known!!!

And to start it off, here are my requests, and I hope you will all pitch in, and make your interests known!!

While this is a fairly long list, I do NOT want to forget other eras! In this regards, I would strongly recommend the following ships from WW1, as this is a really under-represented field!!!

SMS Scharnhorst German armored cruiser (and sistership, Gneisenau)

HMS Lion battlecruiser (and sisterships, Queen Mary, Princess Royal)

SMS Derflinger German battlecruiser

HMS Agincourt British battleship, 14 x 12" guns!

HMS Iron Duke British battleship

SMS Kaiser German battleship (sisterships Friedrich Der Grosse, Kaiser, Kaiserin, Konig Albert, Prinzregent Luipold)

SMS Helgoland German battleship (sisters Oldenburg, Ostfriesland, Thuringen)

HMS Invincible, British battlecruiser (sisters Indomitable, Inflexible)

SMS Dresden German light cruiser

HMS Glasgow British light cruiser (at Coronel, and Falklands battles)

I would like to see a 1/350 scale BB-38 Pennsylvania in her late '44-on configuration. It would be perfect if Dragon could take what they’ve done in 1/700 scale and do it in 1/350. Here she is seen leading colorado:

Of course most any of the Pearl Harbor salvage/survivors would be great, like BB-46 Maryland, BB-36 Nevada, BB-45 California, BB-48 West Virginia, and especially after thier '43/'44 rebuilds like BB-43 Tennessee seen here in mid-'43:

My nomination for 1/350 carrier would have to go to one of my favorite old gals, the Forrestall-class CV-60 Saratoga in her final fit just before decommissioning as seen here in her '90-'91 fit. What Charms me the most about this old girl is all the modern equipment were add-ons in her long life and they look like it.

I’m doing the Revell 1/542 scale kit with scratch-built upgrades to this configuration, as you an see all that is in white is scratch built from sheet styrene, but I want a BIG one.[8D]

Id like to see the Fuso and Yamashiro

Some WW1 battleships like Queen Elizabeth class. lets get a battle of Jutland line up.

Warspite , Rodney, Nelson and some british cruisers

Also, SMS Baden/Bayern, they were nice looking ships. A 1/350 Agincourt would be a monster!

just two ships come to my mind right away

  • a really up to date four stack destroyer

  • a better kit of a destroyer escort in the Atlantic configuration

maybe down the road I’d like to see some British stuff. Like maybe the Ajax. And the Langley.

If you like the French pre-dreadnoughts, i’m surprised you don’t like the Russians! ‘Tsesarivitch’ is a classic example (and built in France to a French design)

Russian and Japanese pre-dreads are already available. I put priority on ones not currently available.

In school I think they used to call this “repetition for emphasis”,it sure can’t hurt to list these again: SMS Derfflinger,with parts to build her with either the pre-Jutland pole foremast or the post-Jutland tripod… Then her British opposite number,HMS Tiger,likewise a beautiful ship. If these two are released as accurate,builder-friendly kits,I believe the interest will snowball into lots of other gems we want from the WWI era.

Airfix/Hornby announced one for 2009 this morning at IPMS 2008 at Telford.

Yes!!! Wonder who’ll be doing the tooling (can you say ‘Trumpeter’?) Series 12 kits sell for about £40 (say USD60). Not at all unreasonable.

If it comes about, I think this would be the first 1/350 injection-moulded kit of a serving RN vessel ever!

kustommodeler1- please send me any all info you have on the Sara, and a list of mods you did to the 1/542 kit. I’ve got that exact kit, and would like to do it configured to pre-desert storm,when my dad did a tour aboard her.

I agree! I think something either pre-WWI. Like the Konig or USS Maine, USS Texas, or even the USS Olympic. How about something from Sail and Steam era combined. Last suggestion, how about Ironclads???

Well, the Koenig is available in 1/350 NOW (originally by ICM, but now made by Aoshima), so it is worthwhile asking for others in the same scale. I heard a rumor that Aoshima has hired a couple ship design guys fro ICM to help produce a number of additional WW1 kits in future, with SMS Scharnhorst, SMS Lutzow, and others mentioned as possible kits in 1/350…
