Hello everyone! I wanted to share my most recent completed project: a vignette depicting a Union cavalryman on the first of the Battle of Gettysburg. I mostly tackle WW1 subjects, but I wanted to revisit one of my other passions for history by trying an American Civil War subject.
The figure comes from a Masterbox kit and I replaced the stock head with one from Hornet. Definitely was an upgrade. The kit overall was pretty decent, but there were some incorrections I needed to address before painting. The original figure comes as a corporal, but the width of the stripes on his trouser legs suggests that he should be a sergeant, so I used a scribing tool to add an extra chevron to each arm. I also used the scribing tool to add the correct piping to his shell jacket.
For the base, I used a combination of different materials to try to capture farmland west of the town of Gettysburg using reference pictures (and memory from my time in Gettysburg when I did my bachelors degree at the college there). I also handpainted the background panel.
Hope you all enjoy this small project!
