1/35 Trumpeter Waffenträger

As i said in my introduction, i’m coming back to the hobby after a while, and decide to do something different. This is the first 1/35 kit i’m building and overall the second military one.

I decided to build this Krupp waffenträger because i’m a big fan of the 38(t) based vehicles and the late war 38(D) designs as well (this one never left the paper, but i find it cool anyway). After a bit of research i found that it would probably be easier to start with a kit without muiltiple piece tracks, but i decided to challenge myself and build it anyway.

Well, first of all i apologize for the picture quality, my phone camera is acting strange…

I also decided that instead of the proposed paint scheme, i will paint it like the Jagdpanther bellow, but i still don’t know if i will mask it or paint the stripes with the airbrush

So far that is all i have done, i also started the tracks but didn’t go too far, so i didn’t take pictures.

For now the only problem i had was with the gun. The metal barrel is so heavy it tilts the whole assembly down… i havent build the turret yet, but i think it won’t improve very much, so any tips in keeping it balanced?

Don’t be afraid of indie link tracks. It just takes time, but the results are great.

Oh really cool!!! Not sure what you can do with the badly balanced gun other than the cheating way of just cementing it in position.

Starting out pretty good. I’m getting into modeling myself. My question is how did you get pics from your phone to download to the site. The individual links are a bit tricky but they do like awesome once they’re done.

They really do, but im patiently doing it, actually i already completed one side (107 links)

I figured that out, turns out once you glue to lower part of the turret, it rests on top of the hull and keeps the gun from going muzzle down

Thanks, for the pictures i sent them to myself on whatsapp, opened it on pc, and downloaded, but the pictures loose quality on the process, so i only do that when i dont have a cable close by

Anyway, i slowed down the build a bit, but did a lot of progress on the last few days

Mocking up some parts, the tire is holding the gun up

I painted the hull and some parts with red oxide primer, the idea was to paint the interior before glueing the 2 parts of the hull, but i haven’t done that yet

Another mock up, this time the bottom of the turret is glued together, but the travel lock is only resting

i would like to keep it movable, but i don’t think i can do it…

The kit comes with a lot of accessories (like the jack on the above picture), so i’m planning which ones i’ll use. I want to keep it basic, so probably it will be the jack, shovel, axe, starting crank, lights, and the tow cables (speaking of which, what would be the correct length for them?) Edit: I’m also planning on making a canvas cover for the turret, but i’m not sure on that yet…

As i said in my previous post, i want to keep the travel lock moveable. I decided to drill through the fake hinges, and use a guitar string to connect the pieces.

My fear was that drilling wouldn’t leave enough material and the travel lock would break, but it worked out fine.

As you can see i still haven’t trimmed the string (probably i will paint everything first).

That looks good! Great job there drilling out the travel lock.

Nice work. I’ve also got a weakness for trying to make things workable, usually because I can’t decide on how I want to eventually pose or display the model (figs/no figs? etc) and have ruined my fair share of parts trying to drill them for pins. I just spent over an hour trying to make a Merkava loader’s hatch work, ended up glueing it closed. Well done here.
