Recently built this Kubelwagen.
Picked up some newer Tamiya figures to go with it. Absolutely love the new figures.
Bought another set of US infantry to go with a planned Jeep build. Unfortunately the driver is from the kit and of the previous generation of Tamiya figures. His head was huge as well as having disproportionately large hands.
The Tamiya Kubelwagen is one that’s been in storage for awhile. It was an easy straightforward build. I used UV resin to replicate the speedometer glass and it worked great. After a quick cleansing with alcohol shot thru the airbrush it was primed with Alclad II and base coated with Vallejo US interior yellow followed by a post shading of Vallejo dunkelgelb. A spot of gloss coat was applied to decal locations. After the decals were applied and allowed to dry a Vallejo dull coat was applied to seal things up. An oil pin wash of burnt umber and black was applied to panel lines, hinges, embossed areas of the body. Again Vallejo dull coat was applied to seal this up before an oil mix of white and yellow ochre was dry brushed adding highlights. I haven’t used this technique for sometime. It was fun, but takes time to dry.
I used this time to get the figures built and
Both the driver and rifleman were primed with Alclad II then base coated with Vallejo followed by an application of a dull coat. Oils were utilized for shading and applied to flesh areas and the uniforms. When this dried dullcoat was applied again to seal everything. The uniforms were given an oil dry brush to bring out the highlights. The decals were added and I had some apprehension over whether they would settle down. They settled down beautifully.
Added some barrels, jerry cans and an MG34 on an AA mount to get a feel for a vignette.
Happy modeling
