1/35 Tamiya M20 Finished...First in 20 Years

Like the title says, first kit completed after a long layoff. Built straight out of the box, using Tamiya acrylics for painting and weathering.

The stowage is from Tamiya’s Allied Vehicles Accessory Set, the boxes from Tamiya’s US Army Combat Rations A. The .50 cal is from Academy’s US Machine Gun Set as I liked it better than the kit gun.

I airbrushed the basecoat XF-62 OD, then made a mix of 85% XF-52 Flat Earth with 15% XF-1 Flat White for the dirt/dust weathering along the bottom half of the vehicle and the tires/wheels. I drybrushed a very small amount of XF-16 Flat Aluminum on the wheels for scratches and wear. I went very light as I didn’t want to go overboard. I left off the wheel skirts for the rear two axles as one was warped very badly and would not stay in place. I also left the figures out because my pitiful attempt at figures resulted in great gnashing of teeth. I’ll probably put one or two around it since there’s quite a bit of gear and no bodies with the vehicle and I think it looks a bit odd.

That’s the background, here’s a few photos. My apologies for the quality of the pictures, it’s really washing out some of the details, but the Sony I use for model photos is going on 5 years old, and I don’t have a decent backdrop to help with lighting yet.

Thanks for looking!

Matt

For your first build in 20 years you did a GREAT job!![tup]

However I feel it’s still a bit too clean. Perhaps you could do a burnt umber wash, it would really raise the details and enhance realism. Because when I look at your M20 it look’s good, but I feel it’s sorta missing something without a wash. But then again if you were going for real subtle weathering, then you hit the mark.

i like it how it is dusty. 2 thumbs up!

I think it looks great too! I really like the clean look. I figure that a tank or vehicle not in a vingette or diorama looks better clean than dirty. [:)]

I’m building my first tank model now and I only hope mine turns out as well as yours has.

Regards,

Nice build! I really like the stowage!
