I’ve looked all over the internet and am still confused what type of uniform scheme i should paint the figure. Do i give him the all black with pink piping or feldgrau. The model represents a stug iv after normandy, but its not from an ss unit but would i give the crewman the ss pea pattern camo or what? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you.
laxman,
if the Stug crewmember represents a member of the Heer (army) after/ during 44 it should be painted in Feldgrua. you should not paint it in SS Pea Pattern(44 dot camo). many Heer stug crewmembers also wore private purchased uniforms such as stug Bluses done in splinter B (heer) camo made from old Heer zeltbahns, although this was not a issued item it was common. i have also seen one that was all black leather , this was also privatly made and not a issue item and very rare.
all stug uniforms wether Waffen SS,Heer and Luftwaffe were issued in Feldgrua, never Panzer black. becuase Stugs and there crew members were not considerd part of the Panzer arm. they were actually considerd artillery.
Also remember as the war progressed, supplies for Germany were sparse at best. SS units and other Elites units, might well receive more suppliesthen other units. It was not unsualy to to see a mixture of uniforms within a unit or tank crew. One mustalwaysdecide if you are trying toreporduce an “off the assembly line” vehicle or soldier or a field veteran.
definitely Feld grau and red piping as pink was for armor not sure if they would use piping though.
