It is one of the holy grails of Shermanholics. Unfortunately one is not yet available in styrene.
Resicast of UK made three versions of the M4A4 based one (raised screen, lowered screen & removed screen). They also made a raised screen M4A1 too I believe.
Pricey. Require lots of work as the DD was very complex. Mine hit the eBay ether a couple of years ago.
Sadly, a ludicrous DD Sherman was made by I-Corps. It’s not worth the cardboard box it would come in. Total complete garbage – unbuildable. Hopefully every one extant is in some landfill now rather on some poor sap’s stash shelf.
Re: I-Corps, I have their Sherman dozer “kit”, and it’s got about half the parts actually needed, with one very poor drawing. It might make it as a dio prop one day, but at least I’m only out about three bucks.
Seems like Dragon could do a DD tank, with the screen made from DS, maybe?
I’ve had the misfortune of owning (briefly) several I-Corps models. They were the T1E1 Minerollers, the BARV Sherman, the Duplex Drive Sherman and some other forgotten subject.
The now deceased proprietor of I-Corps, had great visions for kit subjects. However, his ambition far exceeded his modelling skill. I can honestly say that almost nothing in his “models” looked like the real thing. It’s as if he looked at the scale drawings, tried to memorize them, closed his eyes, put them aside, and started making masters.
I heard that the person rec’d a small business load due to a medical disability and he came up with the idea of becoming a resin kit maker.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful of the deceased but people should be warned about the zero quality of the wares.
I have just about everything I need now to do a home made conversion for a DD (except the screws and drives for the screws). I know once I am done or nearly done, some mainstream maker will come out with a kit. I have been requesting one every year on here in the most wanted polls in 1/35.[whstl]
There are lots of brass screws for the shipmaking guys. Have a look at their hobby suppliers.
Yes, those are what I have been eyeballing at the LHS that carry those. My biggest hold up is the actual drives for the screws. I have not yet found or seen something that would work.
Here is a rumor that may be of interest to thore who want a DD
Rounds Complete!!
With my luck I can garantee that if I start my DD project and get more than 1/3 completed, Dragon or somebody will release one. I once back dated teh old tmaiya Stug III G/H into a short barreled IIIE. Within a year Dragon came out with their early model Stug IIIs.
Build it…
& they will come…
Probably, by Dragon, DML, Trumpeter, HobbyBoss, & ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!
