1:35 Dragon/DML Sd.Kfz.184 Elefant

OK, so I don’t build much armor…the occasional “catharsis project” when aircraft seem a little less fun. This is the “Premium Edition” re-release of DML’s 1991 Elefant kit. “Premium” means some new-tooled pieces, and lots of photo-etch! A very nice kit if I may say so.

The Zimmerit was Tamiya Epoxy putty, rolled out flat, slapped on and trimmed to fit, then scored with a tool I made out of a sample piece of plastic “I-beam”. This was the first time I’ve ever attempted Zimmerit, and after a few years of being intimidated by it…I can say it was actually fun! The mud and weathering was a technique adapted from an Adam Wilder article over on Missing Lynx. The crew members are a resin set from Royal Models.

Awesome build!!! Love the paint scheme. [tup]

That is excellent work

You’re not the same Jkelly that does all the dios? Well regardless, this is really cool. I really dig the camo and the weathering and thought it interesting to see a German wearing his hat backwards like a rapper. Just haven’t seen it before.

Gota love 'dem elephants!!, nice build!!

Hi Tigerman, and thanks! I don’t know if I’m who you’re referring to or not. I do a LOT of “situational photography” with my modelling projects, in which I place them in their “natural environments”…but I’ve only built one Diorama since returning to the hobby, which was also my first armor project since returning. It was DML’s Tiger 1 Initial Production kit, which I did into a winter dio called “Dogs of War” with DML’s (of course!) Feldgendarmerie set w/German Shepherd Dogs.

And thanks to everybody else for the positive comments!

Real nice work. Good job with the zimmerit around the bolt heads. Great camo! Thanks for my new word for the day![;)] I had to look up “catharsis”. [D)][(-D]

Great job! I love the camo!

Very nicely done!

looks awesome man! The zimm looks a little thick, but it looks great none the less! Well done, and great looking pictures! The figs look pretty good too! I love the poses!

Beautiful job! Love the weathering. The zim seems to be too thick but it is not a major problem in my book. Wonderful build.

Thanks Guys!

There’s a veritable herd of Elefant’s rampaging around these days! Nice work on your first hand-made zim job and the “situational photography” really adds to the feel of the crew/vehicle as being from a “moment in time”.

Thank You!

Those Figures and their faces are great.

Thank You, Tinkerer…! I have to give credit to the sculptor of the figures, thouh…they were exsquisite! They even turned out looking human for me, a ham-handed figure painter at best! Glad you like the overall results, though!
