I’ve been wanting to build another WNW so much nabbed 2 of them. Given 4 versions to choose from still deciding which 2, but leaning towards 'Red hood, tail and wings; and the green tail from late 1917. Usual start with the office ,pretty basic . I did cut off the fuel tank caps to make it easier to smooth the glue joint , replaced them with aluminum tubing.
Getting all the sub assemblies in order. Opened up the exhaust pipe ends with a dremel and needle files
I went back and touched up ejector pin marks and added more wood grain detail. IP guage decals went down nicely and canopy glue applied in layers added the’ lenses ’ .Spares bin donated some pe fuel caps , then the sub assemblies went in .
Thanks for taking the time to post up Real G, agree on both counts!
Engines are next and they are really kits by themselves. Adding some pe and will scratch in some of the plumbing later. Weathering will be next before I set them in the cradles.
The quality and level of detail in these WNW kits is so high that I can not bring myself to build my SE5…I know that it is the crown jewel in my collection and will most likely never be surpassed
Are you going to replace the valve lifter springs? It’s tricky work, but a friend showed me his modded engine and now I cannot unsee it.
WNW kits have a certain intimidating aura, not from the kits themselves, but from all the gorgeous work their builders put into into them! It’s like I’m not good enough to soil a WNW kit with my dirty hands!
Theuns I agree but still would just have to pull the trigger and build it!
GMorrison I’ve been eye balling that Hansa as well ,but going to do the Gotha next
Real G, its hard to see in the pics but I used a fine razor saw blade to scribe in the spring detail. I’ve seen the springs being ‘wound’ with wire on the net its impressive for sure.
I’ll follow along when I can … I have the WNW Albatros D.V “Manfred von Richthofen” in my stash and will refer back to your build when I get around to it.
Mike thanks, appreciate the kind words and looking forward to seeing your build! I’m honored that you think my build is worthy for reference!
I gave a light spray of dullcote to the insides trying my best not to hit the guage faces, and I did. Quick drop of superclear brought them around tho! Got the rigging cables for the ailerons routed , now fitting the fuse sides together.
Fuse halves together and imperfections filled and sanded, rescribed the panel lines along the seam areas. Electric toothbrush is my go to tool for scrubbing sanding debris away from the panel lines and recessed details
Thank You very much for taking the time to post up Josh , really appreciate it and the kind words. The rigging would have been easier had I pre-drilled the bulk heads under the seats, but it was’nt too hateful.
