Does anyone know of a photetch set to add the fuse props to a 1/32 scale bomb. I am building a 1/32 Trumpeter P-38 L and the kit bombs are nice but the propellers for the fuse arming are not included. In this scale the bomb looks to simplistic without the props and fuse saftey wires. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks dirtball. I really would like to have the little props that go on the end of the fuses. I will have to check out the Eduard photoetch set. Squadron usally has a good picture of what is included. It would be almost impossible to scratch build these tiny little props.
OK Soulcrusher, this is the bomb detail with EDUARDS detail. 2 hatches and base for tail fuse(I`m going to use very smal tubing) Both nose & tail fuses will have PE vanes on them. You can see how much more detail is added to even a bomb Sorry its blurry
Looks good there dirtball. When you are building in 1/32 this type of detail to me is a must. It makes the difference between the model looking like a toy or a miniature version of the real thing. My problem is I have way to many reference photos and I know what it is suppose to look like. Plus add a little OCD in the mix and I can spend way to long on a model. I spent at least 4 hours just researching and constructing the rocket trees on my P-38. No wonder this beast has been on my bench for six months! I know many photos show the bombs mounted without the fuses installed since this was not done until right before take off so not having the little props on the front of the bombs could still be correct but I think this small detail would improve the look of the otherwise simple looking bomb. I guess if I want I can move on and add them later.
True, you can wait. But FYI, in the 4 years I was a bomb loader in the AF, all munitions were loaded with fuses installed. They have an arming wire that went through both fuses with a clip on the other side of fuse preventing the fuse prop from turning. Then the wire was atatched to the bomb shakle. When released the arming wire would be pulled back through the fuses, and the fall of the bomb would spin the prop wich would arm after so many revs. Then hit and go boom.Yea ,I know what you mean. I must of spent ten or fifteen hrs of reasearch on my center line MER just to get it rigt. I`ve had to stop myself and drop a few planned details on this just so I can finish it up hopefully by summer!! Let me know if you can use any armament detail pieces, I may have some left over!!
Just don’t do like a friend of mine did. He was a former BB Stacker and spent months detailing the MER, TER’s, and bombs for a kit he was building. After getting everything completed and finishing the model, he started installing the pylons. That was when he realized the centerline pylon was installed backwards on the MER. He destroyed a lot of detailing getting the pylon removed from the MER.
Thanks for the info. It appears that the fuse itself is represented in the nose of the bomb but the kit does not provide the arming props. If you have any spare props and you dont mind parting with them {I only need two} it would be greatly appreciated!
Use a punch set, punch out a piece of foil…use a sharp knife to cut slits to form the blades of the prop. Leave the sliced disc flat until you install it…then use a tweezers to twist the blades into the correct shape. If I remember correctly those props were stamped metal.
