Here’s a kit I picked up in Phoenix w/ the EE K-4 cockpit set…really outstanding detail in this one! The seat pans were made of wood, so the raw Sienna wash attempts to mimic this. The control panel is Blue-Tac’d up for the photo, still needs a darker wash. Seatbelts begin in the morning, along with instruments…

Looks pretty good. Not sure about the wash on the seat & Instrument panel, makes it look like it’s rusted. Other than that, a good start.

Thanks Guys…! They “browns” were a bit overstated, weren’t they!? Well, the cockpit on the -109K is about done…put together the seat harness from 0.001 sheet brass, and the EE photo-etch buckles. Also made some ALPS decal placards sourced from internet placard pics, and cut out all of the instrument dial decals by hand (Really! got to get a punch set!)I need to put the glass on the gunsight, but that will be towards the end, as I have a tendency to break them off.Re-washed the seat pan and control panel with black watercolors too, to overtone the browns a bit.
The toning down helped a lot. The seat belts are fantastic. Nice work !

Hey JKelley that is a beautiful start. I like the tone down on the seinna loks alot better. Only things that keeps getting my eye is the instrument panel. Doesnt look finished. Needs some more something to break it down, something to bring the bezels and instruments forward… everything on that panel look the same. Awesome job on cutting those instrumnet decals… Something I never thought of. Did you literally hand cut or is there a trick you use? Looking great.

I was thinking about another light wash…but the enemy of good is perfect! I cut the damned things out by hand with a sharp #11 blade, then set it into the bezel with Microset. My only trick is to take frequent breaks!!

Thank You! The belts are made of 0.001 sheet brass. I bought a small pack of varied thicknesses at the Hobby Shop…apparently they’re used as shims in model railroading! The buckles, etc. are part of the Eagle Editions kit…a nice fret of photoetch is included.
As far as the placards, I did a Google search, and came across several sites that sell real placards to stick in your 1:1 aircraft. Some had jpeg examples, so I cut and pasted them into Corel Draw 12, and resized them. Viola! They’re not in Deutsch, though…but the lettering becomes so small, noone will be able to tell!

The instruments are individually cut decals…some homemade ALPS, some from the kit’s sheet. A few drps of future after all is said and done, to replicate “glass”.
Wow awesome on the placards JKelley. What words did you use to do the search with to find them.
“Placards”, “Aircraft placards”, “German Aircraft Placards”, combinations therof, etc…you’d be surprised what’s out there!
