1/32 BF-109 finished. 21st Century toys...

Well here it is…My take on the 21st Century BF-109F-2 fitted with the R6 “Kanonenboote” MG151/20’s fitted under the wings. This was built for the 21st Century GB over at www.swannysmodels.com

This kit was my first attempt at a free hand mottled scheme, aswell as my first time using an acrylic wash. It isnt perfect, but overall I am very happy with how it turned out.

I am a little dissapointed in the main seam under the fuselage, but its too late now…[#oops]

Thanks for looking, please let me know what you think [:)]

Hey TAdan. Without sounding too creepy or anything[:-^], I was just thinking about you the other day.[:D] It was just that I noticed you < and several others, had not posted in a while.

That is a sharp looking 109. And don’t worry about the bottom. I am looking at a framed technical drawing in 1/24 of a G-10 on my wall and there is a seam that runs down the top spine and bottom. The seam on the bottom is interrupted by a whole panel in a thin section being the wing root and before the 1st rear fuselage vertical section, and not under the nose. While not often modeled that way, it is there. So you see, you did a great job. A whole hearted[tup]

Hey TAdan I think it looks pretty good for a $10.00 dollar kit. The only thing I can fault on it is the fusalage camo should continue underneath the tailplane all the way back to the rudder. Other than that it looks great, nicely done panel lines. Keep up the good work.

Looks good to me. If you hadn’t told me about the seam line on the bottom, I probobly wouldn’t have noticed. My eyes arn’t that good. Looks good and keep it up.

I think it looks great! Those 21st Century kits are a bargain. Very nice paint job.

Thanks everyone [:)]

Wingnut, I havent had a chance to build or post much due to school…but now that the semester is over…[:D]

For a $10 kit I love it, and hope to buld more in the future.

soulcrusher, I noticed the paint mistake as soon as I removed the masking tape, but I didnt think it was worth the trouble to try and repaint the area.

Looks nice! The Bf109s were actually factory assembled in sections…including port and starboard fuselage halves! The real aircraft did, indeed, have a long “seam” running fore to aft on the top and bottom of the fuselage! The “Nazi Rivet Counters” never said a word…so no IPMS judge ever should!! Ha Ha…[:D]

Great job on the Bf-109! As for your feeling of “not perfect,” I believe you’ve fallen prey to the age-old problem of being too hard on yourself. [2c] I must agree with some of the other replies, if you hadn’t pointed out a couple of things (i.e. first time mottling & fuselage seam) I would’ve never known. I was too busy enjoying your “work.”

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us! [tup]

P.S. where did you “score” the Bf-109? I’ve found the Macchi C.202 and the Junkers Ju-87B/R at the local “Wally World” but have not been able to find the Bf-109! [banghead]

VEry nicely done indeed, TAdan. I bet that looks impressive on a display shelf. The yellow nose is intimidating!

Your 109 turned out great! The seam along the bottom (as well as one on the top of the fuselage) are supposed to be there. That was by design as Willy Messerschmitt wanted to avoid having to bend aluminum panels any more than necessary so as to maintain the panels strength.

Nicely done on your first freehanded mottling job. I’ve started freehanding mine as well and have noticed that I get the best look by highly thinning the paint, getting in really close and just slightly easing back on the trigger. Keep the A/B gently moving all the while to avoid a big “splat” or runs. Eventually you’ll get good at slightly rocking the trigger back and forth just a hair while moving the brush all along the fuselage and you’ll get nice, small, irregular spots of mottling that will get you the look that you want.

I like the scheme you chose, looks very nice. [:)]

Hiya TAdan…

I realize I am digging this one up from a few months ago…but I cannot really figure out 21st Century’s color codes… what paints did you use for the top side?? I know the bottom is Lightblau and the nose, tail, and fuselage band is Gelb-- but what about the rest? Thanks in advance…

You may find these color charts very handy when working on Luftwaffe Colors

She looks good to me!!!

That’s exactly what I needed-- thanks brother!

I was at walmart the other day and saw few 21st century plane kits and was wondering how these kits were. After seeing your work, I am tempted to go back and purchase those kits. Nicely built and painted!

Great Job. Just picked one up the other day during my break. Hope it comes out as good as yours.
