1:28 Revell Fokker Dr1 Complete

Very little to update on this, as most of us, I have been busy with life.
I was looking for a newer car to replace my 2001 Ford F 150, which was in very bad need of expensive repairs, and with the winter coming, I thought this would be a good time. I bought a 2012 Nissan Leaf, and since I just commute with it, it’s pretty cool. I got it for the fuel savings and have gone from $150 mo for gas to $25 mo for charging. Nearly pays for itself. We have a second vehicle for longer distances.
Anyway, enough of that. Here is what I have so far. I attached the wings and filled some gaps. Next is the undercarriage and a few other fiddly things. I’m working on the guns separately.

Steve

You’re doing a smashing job on the tri-plane.

Do you have any tips on how to align the wings when assembling them as the glue dries ? That’s a stumbling block for me as i have a 1/72 Walrus MK II waiting to install the top wing and don’t know how to align it properly. ( my first try at a double winger )

No, the Dr-1 is pretty easy as it had pretty strong interplane struts, so it’s pretty much aligns itself. I have built other 30’s bipes that were a nightmare. Some guys build a jig to help, others use a Biplane Assembly Jig such as the Aeroclub jig

MC,

The Dr.1 is coming along nicely. Just be glad it’s not a Caproni Ca.36. [:D]

congratulations on your Leaf. My neighbor has one and enjoys the car very much. Yes, he too saves on fuel!

Your build is coming along nicely. Looking forward to it’s completion.

Toshi

Here’s the progress tonight. I was gone the Tacoma and returned late last night so I didn’t get much done. Anyway it is ready for painting.

I will be painting it in Jasta 11 1917 colors.

Interesting scheme, can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Best wishes,

Gary

Great looking Dr1. Streaking really turned out nice.

Here is mine I jut finished a couple weeks back… I built it OOB. I know the decals arent scale but I enjoyed it.

Im really looking forward to seeing this plane completed. Good luck on the painting!

Great red, what paint did you use? The weathering along the ribs looks great, I hope I can get mine to look as good as yours and PJ’s

Here’s where I am after an evening of painting. The August 1917 Jasta 11 colors, just before Richthofen went all red in September.

Steve

I like it more and more!

Gary

Thanks Gary, The blue doesn’t look right. I used RLM 78, it was the only “sky blue” I had in the paint drawer. I’m not sure we have exact records of Richthofen’s colors anyway, so for all I know, it’s on the mark.
At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Steve, I responded to the paint scheme but it’s not showing up here. Odd. Anyway, again I say I like the scheme as it is more interesting than all red. It really looks like a neat kit and you are making it look fantastic.

BK

Thanks Brandon,

The green stripping is going to be the trick. I like the way PJ did his.

PJ,

Did you dry brush the off color green to get the effect (either light green over dark or vice versa)? I am going to try to dry brush dark over light to get the streaking effect.

I think I got it. Here is the Dr-1 in its paint. I still need to finish the guns and a few other tough ups such as the skids on the wing tips ETC.

I will probably put this aside for a day or two while I try to finish two ther builds.

I did the usual preshade that you would do on a WW2 plane. Primered and sparyed black lines. for red I used Tamiya XF-7.

It really came out better than I thought it would.

For weathering I used really thinned Tamiya Flat Black and sprayed for 2 feet away lol… somehow I got kinda lucky with it. in natural light it looks amazing… in my room it looks almost black lol

I really really like this build. I love the really old planes. I think I’ll locate one of those Dragon kits for this one and add it to the stash. Nicely done.

BK

Oh My, MC that’s looking really good ! The old WW1 planes are a work of art in themselves and you nailed this one. Mmm-Mmm-Mmm
