Years ago I bought the Tamiya Tiger and two Centurions in 1/25 scale, the ones with the interior details. I’ve been saving them for retirement, but now that I am back into modelling again- I see there are aftermarket kits for just about everything- even 1/350 scale aircraft! Wholly mackeral. Do any of you know of detail kits for these out of production armore kits? I figure I better get them before they go bye-bye also.

I was recently bidding on the old Tam 1/25 Tiger on ebay but it went for a crazy price. I know there are photoetch Tiger mesh grills in 1/25 (http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=3139) and barrels, not sure about update sets/track links though.
If it’s interiors you fancy doing, I’ve also just bought the Academy Tiger 1 in 1/35 with the full interior, that also comes with etched screens in the box, and I got mine off, yep, ebay again for the price of a normal Tamiya Tiger.
good luck
I’m not aware of any aftermarket for the Tamiya 1/25 Centurion. To be honest, and unlike the 1/35 kit, it’s a pretty fine kit, and I don’t think it really needs any aftermarket. You mght want to add some wiring and tubing in places, but, with good references, that would be easy enough to scratchbuild.
Be wary of the Academy 1/35 Tiger I with full interior. Full the interior may be. Accurate, large chunks of it aren’t. Start at the ammo bins, and work aft and up. I spent two years, on and off, building and accurizing mine.
Cheers,
Chris.
I believe we are talking about the 1/25th scale Tamiya offerings here. There are virtually no AM out there for THESE 1/25th kits. However, the scratch building possibilities are endless.
Be aware that both interiors provided are inaccurate and incomplete, some details are useable though. If you are looking for scale replication, get some plasticard and styrene rod and pm or e-mail me for interior pics.
Here is my 1/25th Tiger with my inaccurate scratch built interior. I used spares, balsa wood, plasticard, virtually anything I couls scrounge…
I had a blast doing this. Of course, the Tiger purists did not appreciate my artistic license, but this model was on display at the LHS for a year and it got a lot of attention and praise.
Just an example of what you can do:

Thanks for the replies gentleman. Crockett, that is an AWESOME Tiger! I built the first of the two Centurions that I bought about 15 years ago. I would send you a picture (nothing near as good as your work) but I haven’t figured out how to attach photos here yet. But I can attach links:

This is a webpage of my models of about 8 years ago. The 1/25 scale Chieftain was my nicest tank ever. Graeme Davidson walked me through, basically holding my hand every time I ran into a problem.
Heard a rumor (in another chat room, as I remember) that Tamiya was going to reintroduce both the Centurion and Tiger I in 1/25. Anyone know if there’s any truth behind this?
It was about 2 years ago I heard about the Centurion. Hope it’s true, that kit is nice but could be improved on with some PE and choice of aluminum barrels would make it a bit more desirable.
Yes It’s true MyLHS got one in today.
Yep, the 1/25 Centurion reissue is available and on the shelves now.
The re-issue is already discontinued so I would get it now. One of my favorite kits of all time, I’ve got one built from 1977, and one new in the box.
I still have the old Tiger kit unopened, what is it worth? I have no plans of selling mine any time soon, but it would be nice if someone knew what the kit value is. Kelly’s Heroes…the Tiger guarding the bank…that is what my kit is going to be when I retire.
