1/24th scale Mosquito kit on the way.

Hannants in the UK’s Web Site lists a 1/24th scale De Havilland Mosquito as due for release by Airfix in the third quarter of 2008. http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=AX20002

Dang! That will be a large kit, look forward to seeing more info on this one! [tup]

Interesting, of course Heritage aviation have one in that scale on the market.

Heritage Aviation also had a 1:72 TSR2. I see a pattern. I wouldn’t be surprised if Airfix release a 1:24 Lancaster sometime (Heritage Aviation dubs theirs “the Divorce-maker”).

Seriously, though, I look forward to seeing it, and will buy one for myself. Its price will be about $160, based on a conversion rate of $2US/GBP.

I dont know anything about a 1:72 scale TSR2, but i did hear word they might go bigger which would not suprise me with the Mossie, Lancaster, Lightning and Vulcan so far.

It’ll certainly be big…but having seen the quality of many Airfix large scale aircraft kits in the past, I’d rather save my money for something a little less “agricultural”…
Now, if we could just get Eduard, Accurate Miniatures, Tamiya, Fujimi or Hasegawa to make a 1/24 Mossie…and a Lanc, and a Kingfisher, and a…

That’s a bit harsh. The 1:24 Spitfires were the first of the “superkits” and, while dated now, at least have a seat that looks like a Spitfire’s seat, as opposed to that supplied by Trumpeter (though that kit does have boxed-in wheel wells). The 1:24 Hurricane 1 is difficult to fault; and the 1:24 Ju 87 is a terrific kit. I don’t know what’s particularly bad about the 1:24 P-51, although I will admit that the Harriers have a bare cockpit - they’re also the only game in town, and scrub up quite nicely.

Long, long, ago, in the 1970s I think, Airfix were working on a 1/24 scale Mosquito. It was abandoned, partially completed, when the company got into trouble the first time. I think parts of Heritage’s Mosquito are based on Airfix’s masters. So it looks like Airfix plan on resurrecting the project and completing it. That also means that the kit may not be up to modern standards. Vintage Fighter Series also plan to produce a 1/24 scale Mosquito.

Well, that’s interesting. I have a Vintage P-40, which is wondeful.

As long as we’re thinking big, I’d like to see some German aircraft in 1/24. Say a Bf-110, a Ju-88, or my dream kit, an He-111. Now you’re talkin’! I’d take out a second morgage on the house for a kit like that.

The 1:24 Stuka is not a small aeroplane!

Hannerts is also showing a new 1/48 TSR.2 from Airfix, also released 3rd quarter 2008. Might have to spring for one of those, along with a 1/48th Hobbycraft Avro Arrow to complete my set of “might-have-beens”
