I’m finishing up a kit today and while the 1/35 HOOK is not in our sights …l decided to look over a 1/24 Monogram Tour of Duty, UH-1B that I started a couple years back…and WOW!.. I forgot how far along I’d gone on this big kit! TOTAL custom interior, seats with proper chicken plates, heavy foil embossed floor…opened front doors!
With luck I will have it done in two weeks! (at least thats my goal)

The only 1/24 Civil decals I know of is the Revell/Monogram of Germany release of this kit known as the “Heliswiss” rescue chopper.
SO!..When was this kit first released and what made it so unique …and so dang expensive on ebay now!

Its not a very easy site to navigate I must admit that…I have never even tried untill now…its there…I had to find a search option and punched in 1/24 Huey…
Plus they have about 5 1/24 Huey kits on the shelves right now.

I am going to keep my eye on that. I did get one out of the hobby shop and the price allows for lots of room for modification and detailing. I would expect it to be just a larger version of thier 32nd scale kits.
The earliest reference I could find to the Phantom Huey was in an old 1973 Monogram brochure. I never DID get one of these kits. It would make for an interesting Selected Subjects re-release. Imagine the detail that could be added to this kit!
Thats right! Fitter wins a used Cat BOX and a picture of the cat that did it!
That was it…that is the same kit that you see today except the Motor ect, ect. …thats why the interior and exterior of the helo is so glossy.
When Monogram re-released the 1/32 scale phantom a few years back for thier 50th anniversery they should have also done the phantom Huey too! RATS!
I’m fitting the floor and egine/tranny housing together right now…The engine doors will remain closed but I cut out the air vents and thinned the platic around them and I will add some micro mesh later…so you will see some of the engine detail but not enough to add lots of extra details to it.
So THAT explains the rib detail for the interior! PE-64, how do I replicate the interior skin? Don’t need the sound proofing, most"Nam Hueys ran without it, but would like to do the skin.

I hear ya!..I’m at that point right now…and I can not go further with the interior assembly until I get find something…I am going to build up the raised area on both sides of the chopper between the pilots seats and the rear main door…that part that has the air vents at the bottom and holes for storage and stuff.
I was considering no sound proofing…yet MOST of the Nam pics I see show the B and C models have the sound proofing…at least on the back engine/tranny wall and lots of the D models do not.
I will be looking at Michaels crafts and some fabric shops today…you never know…or I will sand down the seat details and use a sribing tool to continue what the kit has…OR I may use MAGIC SCULPT and make my own…lots of work though.
