I am thinking of doing a 1/16 scale tank, Ive seen the review on the T34,anybody have any opinions on the kits out there?
Well you’re getting into 1/16 at the right time. With Trumpeter’s 1/16 T-34s, they’ve gotten rave reviews. Full interior included. Prior to them, Tamiya made a huge splash with full RC compatable Tiger I and M26 Pershing. Older in their line are Tiger IIs and an M4 (105) HVSS. These two have some simplistic features but are still fine models.
Eduard has released a Schwimmwagen with mixed reviews. The recent Tamiya Kubelwagen has been well rec’d.
Before, if you wanted large scale, you were faced with 1/15 (also called 120mm) resin jobs by Verlinden (waste of resin) and Bandai (large toys).
Like any different scale, you have to have a different eye than 1/35.
hi-- i have built the 1/16 tiger full option r/c from tamiya-- but it is available as a static model also–if you build the r/c version to the degree of a well detailed static model i think you may find that it is to fragile to really ‘drive’ around much-- i just keep mine on display now-- and i recently got started on 1/16 t-34- – this is a great kit --but not a ‘weekend’ build if you know what i mean-- very highly detailed and challenging to build–i am lovin it so far!— try it-- you’ll like it!![:D]
Thanks for for the input guys,I did a 1/20 scale PT boat so a 1/16 tank would make a nice 6 month project[;)]
Terry Here,
The Trumpeter 1/16th T34/85 is more accurate than the 34/76. As kits go they are unbeatable value, and with the amount of interior detail you will be spending months not weeks building.
Do not be put off by these words ( the last thing I want to do is discourage anybody) , I have spent the last year working on and researching the T34, but I am scratchbuilding all my extra parts.
The kit has a lot of pinmarks and I think this is the biggest drawback, but not the worst on an otherwise fine kit, thats great value for money.
And now to e-mail treadwell.
regards,
Terry.
