1/16 M26 Pershing build

Hello All,

Just though I’d post a few pictures of my 1/16 M26 Pershing build, a.k.a: Kitty Eater [:)], actually it will be an early version of a Korean variant of the Pershing once it is finished. I posted a few words about each shot underneath each link just to give you an idea of the step involved.

Unfortunately the FSM forums do not allow this type of picture linking (See Post: http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?page=2&TOPIC_ID=30 for more information) so I supplied the url’s for each of the shots.

I hope you like’um, there will be more shots added next week as the build progresses. If any of you are currently building this fine model (whether it’s the 1/35 or 1/16 version), please post your pic’s as well. If we get enough people, who knows, maybe we can have the first M26 Pershing Group build on this board.

Let the fun begin… :[:D].

p.s If you don’t see any pictures at the links, come back at a latter time, there might be bandwidth problems with the photo server.

One of the first steps in the build of the M26

Here’s another shot of the road wheels.

And another…

Here’s a shot of the first six wheels attached to the hull.

You must remember that each side has it’s correct wheel labeled on the inside of the suspension mount as well as the suspension crank arms for each wheel.

And here’s another…

http://images.fotopic.net/?id=2613349
The instructions say to put on the back six wheels first, starting on the right side.

http://images.fotopic.net/?id=2613350
A shot of how the crank arms mate with the suspension tension rails on the inside of the hull.

Check to make sure all wheels sit at the same level once the springs are loaded, if not, you may to need to adjust the crank arm slot, BE VERY CAREFUL in doing so.

The next step, the upper road wheels, straight forward construction, nothing to really watch out for here

I’d love to build one of the 1/16 scale pershings. Are you going to throw in an R/C kit in this? I read an article in a mag reviewing just such an undertaking. For now, the cost of the kit + RC guts are prohibitively high. On that alone I could keep myself busy for a year on plastic kits. Ah well, it does look like a lot of fun tho. One day soon

BUDA,
cool!
thnks for sharing the pics w/ us.
hope you keep us updated on the progress.
ed.

Buda, Thanks for sharing! Now I can ask you some questions about the kit. How many of the hatches (crew, engine) are molded seperately? I’m waiting for the static model to come out so I can build that… or is it already out!?.. and am going to put an interior in it.

Ron

Hi Guys,

Poniatowski & zokissima

No static version of this kit (in 1/16) exists, and I doubt that they will come out with one. The crew hatches are not molded in, neither are the engine hatches, difference though, is that after assembly, crew hatches work, and the engine ones get cemented in. Although it would be a very simple task to make them workable.
Have to tell you guys that this kit is a beauty to behold and worth every penny I paid for it.

wildwilliam

I plan on posting a weekly update to FSM on the build progress (As time permits).

Thanks for the comments.

Keep up the posts. I’d love to see how the kit turns out in the end. I imagine I’ll get much more info this way then from the review I read

Thanks Wildwilliam, that certainly answers my questions! I have a number of M26 interior shots and would like to make one of these with the full int… I think I’ll have to wait a while before I spend the $$ on it. However, I could always ebay what I don’t use such as motors etc.

Ron

Sure Poniatowski,

I’m sure you can easily sell off what you don’t use on ebay, heck, I would even buy the gears off ya now if you had the kit. You’ll definitely have a lot of scratch building to do to make up the complete interior. Let me know if you need any pictures, I have hundreds, plus several reference books (Unfortunately, the only reference I lack is the Hunnicutt book).

BTW, it’s BUDA, not Wildwilliam, that was just me replying to his post.

thks

BUDA

Quite the project you have going here BUDA.

Please keep us posted as to your progress.

Thanks for sharing with us.

That must be one heck of a kit, Buda!
Who makes it?

Regards, Dan

Now that’s a TANK. How I wish I can afford one of those. He-he-he. Maybe someday.

so far so good.
Keep us posted.

Hello All,

boybuddho;

Tamiya makes the kit, here’s the link: http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/56016m26_pershing/m26_pershing.htm

shermanfreak;

I thought you were into making a Pershing, come on in, join the build.

ShermanFirefly;

Thanks, I plan to.

Dwight Ta-ala

The price ain’t too bad, it all depends on where you live.

BUDA

Nice Buda, very nice! Looking forward to seeing this one through the build!

If they’d only make it in a static kit now…

Eric

erush
Hello erush, I’ve heard the sales of this kit are not doing so well, the kit was targeted to the North American market, but since 70% of all Tamiya sales happen in Japan, this kit doesn’t seem to be taking off there. It’s to bad cause this is one fantastic kit.

BUDA

I’d also like to do this kit but not the RC version…

Yours is really coming along!

Thanks Erock68,

I have to say, you guys did a fantastic job on the Tiger 1 build, congrats to all. I also have an R/C Tiger I waiting in the wings to be built, but it’ll have to wait until after the Pershing and my 1:200 R/C Yamato are finished.

BUDA

Good -looking build so far, Buda!
Man, I’ve been so close to picking one of those babies up…they stare at me, beckoning from the top shelf every time I visit a LHS…and seeing your great pix will probably push me over the edge!
Woe to the wallet! Woe!

I look forward to seeing your build progress!

Thanks J-Hulk

Being in Japan and all, the price for the Pershing is probably really good, but don’t you have a big kitty stuck in a black bag somewhere that is begging to be released?? [;)]

BUDA

That I do, Buda!
Got the older but bigger kitty II waiting in a black bag, too…so much plastic, so little time!
The best price I’ve seen on the 1/16 Pershing here is about 65,000 yen (about $620 US). List is 98,000 yen (about $930 US)!
Tempation…temptation…
