1/12 MUTANT HONDA: DONE ,SECOND OF 2011

great looking turbo build up! I’m liking this more everytime I see it, keep up the great work!

Trey -Thanks - Goin’ a little slowly ,cant get into modeling all the time .Did a little work on the parts -fixed the fairing in mutant fashion with a patch that will be bolted or riveted on. Also frame work ,you will see the nitrous solenoids mounted , a front engine guard in the best of mutant fabrication techniques, and a new location for the guages. There is also evidence of tab/mount removal on the frame .Also a front mount on the tank .

I also stated no aftermarket on here , I lied. The parts available are very good and add a lot of detail and open doors for more detail. I ordered from Hiro boy and got some on ebay as well .There is enough here for a dozen bikes, approx. $150.00 worth.

Hose connectors , electrical connectors , a chain kit , throttle cable mounts , hose kits , valves ,shift linkages , an a whole lotta bolts and nuts and clamps etc…!!

I

Some more work on the handlebars .Looking closely the details are soft so I drilled off the air valves on top for amarket ones , drilled the clamp bolt off the middle and scribed in the gap. I drilled for the nitrous button and wiring in the right bar ,also a throttle cable hole , and wiring hole drilled in the left bar.

Scribed in lever detail and cut off the stupid balls on the ends of the levers added the hydraulic clutch master cylinder with bottoms for this and the brake master cylinder.

Quite a bit of work on a piece this small , brought about by looking at the amarket stuff next to the barely usable kit stuff , the contrast begged the need for the scribing etc done. Gettin’ interested in this a little more…

Continuing on here with detail addition of the scratchbuilt kind ,adding to the kit parts. The brakes are one dimensional so I added the rear part of the caliper and thinned the rotors to .035" from .055" .Much better scale appearance,I was gonna drill 'em but don’t wanna push it too much.Calipers are drilled for lines as well. Battery box and oil tank backing on and holes drilled for mounting ,oil lines and battery hold-down. Oil tank cap from a Jap 1/72 tank idler and here is the nitrous bottle with a valve handle now ,also from the tank.

Tryin’ for primer tomorrow.

Hey Steve!

No way I could miss something like that! Now the kit bike seems boring to me, your take on it will surely be a lot more interesting. That’s a lot of goodies you got there - nothing like a well stocked workshop! So from now on I’ll be watching, good luck with your build and have a nice day

Paweł

Thanks Pawel ! Here is some more today : The kit foot controls are barely detailed. I will use the rear brake master cylinder and fabbed a new lever and foot peg. The lever is p/e runner with pins soldered on for the pedal. The foot peg is plastic tube with a pin in it. The gear shift lever is of the same design , reversed on the engine as this seems better than a linkage just to reverse it. Took a coupla hours and no money so a good one and better detail in these areas.

Work shown here includes: Fairing with rivit detail ,weapon holder, bulb glued in . Battery box backing done . Frame halves with bolt detail from Grandt , guage visor and gussets , swing arm and shock bolt detail.Basically spent the day on detail work.

Continuing with the alum welding rod pipework the actual exhaust pipe from 3/16". I’ll get thisand the wastegate done today.

ongoing…

Resting on my laurels got old real quick…Got the blow through type turbo-charger finished ,indeed the entire bike is ready for primer tonight.

Testing my new photo booth as well…

Parts laid out for inspection , into the bath for a soak then blown off and primed.

Howdy Steve!

Did you prime your parts with a transparent primer? I started wondering, why the paint companies do something like that - I find it harder to inspect the coverage when the paint is transparent and all the different colour peek from underneath…

BTW, I always think about your work on engines when I do the Cummins for my Mack! Bike on, have a nice day

Paweł

Pawel -Thanks Been on a chopper kit elsewhere…Managed to get the gb on here.Metal finishes next…

Looking great Steve !

Thanks Trey! Here is some work in progress ,I wanted to try some carbon-fiber decals for the bodywork on the bike. So I got some of this:

I put mask on the parts and cutout my shapes:

I transferred the shapes to the decal sheet and cut out my decals:

I followed the decal manufacturers instructions ,the decals curkled in the water then pretty much disintegrated . I applied the pieces as it goes with the ‘look’ I’m tryna get. I will airbrush the body work colors up to the decal when they dry. These were a little crappy to say the least. The decals were stiff fopr a while then finally laid down. I did not ask too much of them so I am disappointed.

And I sprayed some chrome parts ,this will be a base for other colors to come .

Cool huh?

A little more work on the paint side of things .I like to line up the metalizers ,lightest to darkest , never mind which metal , and start with the lightest overall and then work through the shades until I like the ‘look’. There are three metalizer colors on the chrome base of all these parts. Also brass to color the clutch cover,The exhaust pipes will be simulated stainless steel ,this takes on a gold-amber patina after running , you will see that in the pix, I may add some heat coloring as I go. You will also see the familiar blue bottle ,we all know what that means!

Wow good thing you were’nt trying to use those cf decals on a straight up build, they look the part for this perfectly.

Trey -No comment on the blue bottle?! Yes the decals were a let down.I saw a whole 1/24 car done in this product ,an IPMS best in show down there in the USA , that convinced me to buy it. I dont know what happened, but the decal sheet as supplied is unusable for large pieces. The print is realistic though ,I will apply different color layers and then sand through them down to the cf decal.

Was digging that nos?bottle. I’m geussing a trans blue over silver?nice anodized effect. I’ve seen those decals and was tempted myself, now not so sure, think some decal set would cure it?

Chrome with Tamiya transparant blue over, for the nos bottle. The decals were in pieces before the Microsol/set was even deployed. They went in lukewarm water, curled , came out and fell apart. I used the sol/set as directed on the fragments.

Something else I’m workin’ on in Swanny’s site…
