1:10 SAS gunner bust (completed)

This one has been on the shelves being nearly done for a couple of months now. It was only waiting for a plinth, but finally I found a suitable one and mounted the bust. The name plate will follow in due time.

It is a well known bust of a SAS machinegunner in the North African desert made by Young miniatures.

The biggest challenge for me lied in the depiction of the sun burned/bronzed skin in a convincing manner.

I couldn’t get the ammo to convincingly be mounted, so I left it off.

As always: all comments are welcome.

And now for the photos:

Gee, thanks for your kind words

Very nice job. I really like this one for both the sculpt and your great work painting it.

Yeah, the sculpting is great. Even the individual legs on the Ray Ban are there. I only had to make the sig myself. Nothing hard really…

Very nice work. I had to do a double take on the glasses and zoom in before I realized that they were painted. The colours looks pretty good, almost like a reflected landscape.

Cheers buddy! Since things are rather overcast here the last days it would be a small miracle it it was the real sun

That is incredible work. It’s always the skin and eyes that trip me up on my pilot,/ground personal figures. You nailed it.

Gracias! I also often have a hard time doing eyes. The biggest issue I generally have, it to get them symmetrical… As for skin, I really recommend trying your hand at a bust. They allow for a greater deal of subtlety and the skills acquired thus makes it also easier to paint smaller scale figs..

Yeah, my tiny 1/48th figures are a real challenge for me. I’ll take a look at a bust. What scale are they?

Generally around 1:10

Amazing! The eyes bring him to life. Excellent blending on the flesh. As Frozin noted, the reflection in the glasses is worth a second look. Congratulations on a great piece of art.

Many thanks Paul… I really value your words!!!

Yesterday I took the trouble to get my photo booth assembled and took some better pictures:

Well done and I’d say that you "nailed"the skin tones.
