Was reading the article in the Space forum in “Scratchbuilding Missle Bodies”. Thought I’d see if any one or many people actually build 1:1 scale replica models of artillery and missles. I have built a few as some others I know. They make great conversation pieces in the house or office and on front and backyards. I want to build a full size replica yet of an old “Gatttling Gun”. I have actually had people call police a few times when driving or walking by and seeing some of my full size replicas outdoors. Police just examine them to make sure they are acutally replicas and non-working. Have had some good conversations with local law enforcement. They are usually very polite and nice and very interested in my models and how i built them and waht I used to build them.
I saw an article somewhere about a family project. They built a very large Madcat battlemech in the back yard. It was only about 2-3 stories high so it wasn’t quite full size.
Well, since the 911 incident, everything was tight with security and stuff.
It is not even funny anymore when someone try to build even a replica non working mech with replica gattling gun or replica rocket launcher.
I also join the star wars 501st group, and we are not allowed to carry our replica weapons in some convention. Normally they would just told you to paint the tip bright orange, now, not anymore.
So in the end I guess building a 1:1 missile is not such a good idea especially if you have a paranoid neighbours.

I read about a guy in NZ trying to build a 1:1 scale cruise missile. However some fiancial difficulties (he says it was intentional harassment) he had to abandon the project. I think I read it in one of the forums here. That would have been cool to see.
