Modeling Subjects Ships

I’m looking for information/reviews for Zvezda kits, the steam/sail powered subjects, not “modern” warships. I found a couple of sources for the kits, but need info about their quality, accuracy, etc., etc. I want to try a change of pace from modern warships, and would like to try out a steam/paddle/sail subject or two and see if the finished product appeals to me before deciding if I really want a Revell Kearsarge project that will mean a lot of work and some bucks to do correctly. Any information on the above Zvezda subjects would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there (I’m new to this forum so it’s the ‘hi’ for everybody)

I’ve got Sirius from Zvezda. It’s a poor kit - BUT you can try to remodel that steamer into a paddle-frigate (I’m trying). Anyway I’m also waiting for USS Kearsage!

All I know of these kits is that they are about as detailed as Aurora or Polar Lights. They make a number of mid-19th century steamships, and that they are pricey. Start about $50 on up.

I found a number of these kits at Hobbyinc.

I just finished Zvezda Greek Triera. It turned out to be a good kit to build.Parts fit well the detail was pretty good. I did change out my mast and some other parts.But I usally do that all my ships.I’ve got the Pourqui Pas by Zvezda its not to bad. The Pourqui Pas,Sirius,and Brigantine are all old Heller molds and who knows who they where before that. Plastic sailing ship kits are not the shake the box and you have a model type kits.Thats what makes them fun. I’ve got and old Revell Kearsarge that I’m working on and the Zvezda kits parts fit better and have more detail.

I’ve checked out several of their kits and feel that they should go together quite well. I requested their distributor to send me a few for use in a modeling book I’m writing on building “Half-Models”. I have no problem using that line. [:)]

Thanks guys. I can use the tips as I’m not familiar with the Eastern European companies. When I started building models way back when, they came from people like Renwal, Jo-Han (cars), Revell, and Lindberg. Accuracy was optional and decals were like stickers. Built 'em on the dinette set in about two hours and…
