As some of you might know that Wave of Japan is issuing a few Zoids Kits in 1/20 scale:
Golem, Shot Walker, Road Skipper & the Deathpion.
Anyhuh, I managed to pick up a 1/24 Deathpion some time ago, this Kit seems to differ from the upcoming Wave release in the following ways:
1.) No second pilot figure
2.) The Hatch Cover between the smoke throwers is cut further back revealing some tubing and mechanics.
3.) Scale is listed as different but seems to be the same with the 1/20 Wave releases.
I am not sure what is going on licence wise, but mine was marked Tomy but was announced as a Wave release.
So I am not sure yet if I will pick up the Wave kit as the differenes between the Kits and the extra figure don’t seem to justify the expenditure.
Just wanted to warn people in case the see 2 slightly different version of the deathpion out there, that there are/were 2 kits.
I just finished assembly of my"Death Stinger" a few days ago and was curious if this kit and the Deathpion used the same chassis underneath and if the only diff is the armor and [of course] the figure size?
The Death Stinger is 1/72 scale. A site called Channel Zi has pics of nearly ALL old and new zoids. including the first ones. Check it out. It will take you back down memory lane!
Hi, folks![:)]
I don’t know a whole lot about Zoids, but I just happened to read an article about them and this Deathpion thing in Hobby Japan the other day, and my interest was peaked. Then I saw this thread!
First question: in the articles I’ve read, Deathpion and Road Skipper appear to be from something called Soukou Doubutsu Senki Panzer Tier (Armored Animal War Chronicles Panzer Tier), not Zoids. Are they separate shows? Perhaps they are two shows combined into one for the Western market, a la Power Rangers, Macross, and others. Who knows?
This Hobby Japan article indicates that both the Deathpion (5,000 yen) and Road Skipper (2,500 yen) are 1/20 scale, and areTomy (and Kow Yokoyama) copywrited products distrubuted by Wave.
In addition to the differences MMF mentioned, evidently this Panzer Tier version of the Deathpion also includes special decals and differently colored clear parts. How much more expensive is it than the “normal” version?
Anyway, this is cool-looking stuff. I’m gonna have to check it out![:D]
BOTH my Death Pion and Road Skipper came with a set of blue and orange tinted clear parts as well as 2 sets of Decals (one orange/high visibility & one grey/ghost markings).
One of them in addition had also 2 sets of rubber caps in 2 colours.
Prices are the same (gotta love conrolled pricing in Japan).
Either way with a bit of work and spare parts they can be made into some very nice variants.
Wave/BE-J had a nice modified Golem that used a lot of the Maschienen Krieger parts (Hatch from a Melusine, Gun from the Oscar Kit, etc.)
Hey, J-Hulk, I’m from the U.S. so I’m not sure if those 1/20 scale zoids ever had an anime or TV show. In fact the 1/72 scale zoids [which I love to build and customize] never had a show up until this past year even though the zoids product itself has been aound in one form or another since around 1981 [not quite sure on the year]. So far there have been 4 zoids series based on the current run of zoids: Chaotic Century, Guardian Force, New century Zero, and Fuzors. All of these series didn’t appera in the until about a year ago [so i must assume they were in Japan a year before that]. Anyway this is all i know hope it helps!
What’s even better is that here in the states 80% of the 1/72 modelkits can be found at Kay Be toys ranging in price from $1.99 to $9.99! In fact i even bought a Death Stinger for $9.99 there! In the anime the DS is os one of the most powerful zoids on the planet due to it’s Charged Particle Beam gun and is probably second only to another zoid called the Death Saurer [which to my knowledge is still not available in the U.S.]. The 1/20 scale zoids aren’t available in the U.S. unless you order it on-line.
hi, i was a zoids collector since i was in elementary…and i remembered that i bought a death-pion about 9 years ago…and i still have it now. if you have questions about it, maybe i can answer them because i still have my death-pion with me after so many years.
