Zimmerit on a 1/18 Tiger?

I picked up a ModelWorks Tiger for $20 from Wal-Mart. It is a pre-built, metal and has acceptable detail. It is a late production model, with steel road wheels, etc. It is pre-painted Panzer gray, so I plan to re-paint it.

The scale is 1/18, presumably twice the size of 1/35.

What could I use to apply zimmerit on it? I have the Tamiya 1/35 zimmerit tool, and I’m trying to think of a similar tool I could use? I know I will have to improvise. I plan to use Tamiya polyester putty.

Appreciate any ideas!

I’d use something like Bondo from the automotive department. Be a lot cheaper. For a tool, try a jig saw blade or other suitable power saw blade.

I used Milli Putty and the Tamiya zim tools here:

Thanks for the ideas. I have a tube of the tamiya polyester putty in my box, but it won’t be enough and I’d forgotten how expensive the stuff is!

I have an old jigsaw blade I will try to apply the coat with. I’ll post some pictures when I get it finished.

Thanks again.

That is great modelling.

I have used both the Tamiya zimmerit tool and the polyester putty before, in 1/35. The Modelworks model (toy is more an accurate description) is in 1/18 scale, so the Tamiya won’t work.

Thanks

Neil

Neil,

I’ve used those tools on 1/25th, they come in two sizes, .05 and.07, use the .07 mid size tool and you should be fine there buddy…

There was an article a while back in FSM, the guy used some putty and flathead screw driver for a 1/16 jagdtiger.

Thanks Steve, I’ll use the 0.07 Tamiya tool.
