I’ve just recieved the tamiya zim tools and aves apoxy putty and i was wandering which size i should use on my tiger 1 [.5mm or .7mm]
and one more question; about how long[for 1/35 scale] should each row of zimmerit be?

I think you mean width? I think about 2 to 3mm. As for the zim tool, you can use both, .5 on the hull, and .7 on the turret. Or,chose a uniform pattern, which would be the .5. If you are doing a Normandy Tiger, you can see a difference in some pictures as to the pattern between the hull and turret on the same tank. The turret has a little longer and greater spaced groove than the hull.
Even though I didn’t use putty, I spaced by columns at about 2.5mm, it seems to look OK:

i would say go with the .5 tool. here is a pic of my elephant with the .5

and here is the .7 tool used on the kingtiger

i just think that the .5 tool looks more realistic and in scale. HTH

thanks for the info everybody…ya i made a mistake there crockett thats what i ment.
if you didn’t use putty then what did you use[?]
on the zim tools the .5 tool looks tiny
I used a soldering iron, I burn in the zim. I tried it all, PE, Resin, putty, and I really like the hot iron.

I used a drafting pencil and a ruler to mark off the columns at the correct width. This is important, because it is very easy to get mis aligned.
Some more hot iron zim builds:

Some milli put and Tamiya zim tool stuff from the old days:

And, PE etched zim:
