I have Hasegawas 1/48 Zero type 21 “Battle of the South Pacific” and need to know
would the color Ame-iro still be right for Oct.'42 or was the Zero IJN gray by that time?
Also what was the interior in '42

The cockpit color depends on which company built the plane, Mitsubishi and Nakajima each used their own shade of cockpit green. Mitusbishi’s is very close to US interior green and Nakajima’s is a close to but lighter than RAF cockpit green. For the exterior color it is supposedly a similar thing…

According to J-Aircraft.com, no Zero was Ame-Iro, that was on the A5M, though. They think the early Zero’s and the prototype were a color very close to Nakajima Interior Grey Green made by Aeromaster. I hope they are right because that is the way I painted my A6M1 that I am just now finishing. There is a current post on that build here, look for Hasegawa A6M1. In black and white, this color comes off looking very grey.
