Hi All
For general assembly of plastic
kits, (I mainly do aircraft and armor), What would be best for the assembly? Zap Plasti-Zap Medium CA item # PT-19 orange label or Zap-A-Gap Medium CA+green label PT-04?
and what do all my fellow modellers prefer? I am eagerly awaiting your responses!l
I keep two bottles of Zap handy 1 thin and one medium but most of my glueing is done with Testors glue in black bottle. I use Zap for glueing pe parts and other metel parts, also for filling small gaps in parts. I also keep a bottle of Lock Tite gel for filling larger gaps. And Elmers or Tite Bond for clear parts.ACESES5 [snWcm]
For plastic to plastic you cant beat a liquid cement such as the Testor’s pink bottle, Tenax, Ambroid and a million other types out there. I usually only use CA to attach non plastic items such as photo etch or resin. I do know lots of people like to use CA as a gap filler though and some that even build with it.
I have texax 7, ambroid and a few others, but I find it difficult to apply with brushes . What should I use to weld the parts together? Also should I use it for the whole
kits plastic parts, even the tiny ones? I have the flex-i-file applicator but, the blue bottle thats supposed to insert and suck up the cemenht might be the wrong one or size ,or are they all universal?
I personally use the Testors pink bottle and apply with the brush it comes with. Most of the time I just hold the two parts I am gluing together and touch the seam with the brush. Capillary action does the rest by pulling the glue into the joint. I pretty much begins to melt the plastic and bond right away… I use it on the small parts as well. I have heard that using the needle like applicators is tough because they clog up with melted styrene really easy although I have never used one myself.
I’m one of those who migrated to only CA over time. I find uses for each ‘thickness’ and keep ‘white glue’ nearby only for clear parts.
i have the flex i file applicator. i just stick it in the bottle and suck [whstl] just dont inhale or drink the stuff or it will melt you lungs. (it is an nasty solvent) [:XX] . it does get a bit of plastic in it sometimes but i either poke some 0.010" wire up it or just stick it in the bottle and blow it out. As it melts plastic be VERY careful with small or thin parts or they will disappear before your very eyes.
I use zap medium an zap slo zap a lot. i have the orange plasti zap but never used it so i would be interested if anyone has tried it too.
I use Locktite brand of gel (medium) CA, but use whatever I can get in the thin stuff. I find CA ages rapidly, and I throw away too much. So I use the cheapest and smallest tube/bottle of the stuff I can find. I find especially the thin stuff works pretty much the same from brand to brand.
The reason I like the Locktite gel stuff is the neat container which is a cross between a bottle and a tube. It allows me to get every bit out of the container quite easily.
