Bit late to the party. Guess I never did answer my own topic.
Other than model kit building, there’s not much more in hobbies and interests I like.
I do like to collect and watch DVD’s and Blu-ray movies and tv shows. Most of the genres I like are sci-fi, fantasy, history, comedy, documentary, action, & adventure. But sci-fi takes up a big chunk of my collection. Refuse to watch western, romance, and horror.
I also like to read a lot. Nothing specific as far as book titles and categories/genres. Just whatever catches my eye and seems good. But most books I read are sci-fi related. Other topics can be history, anime, movie making and tv shows, military books (specifically stealth aircraft and technology which I have a lot of).
I also like anime too, but don’t really have a lot of that (Books, DVD’s, etc.) and don’t get to spend a lot of time, if any, getting more into that interest. Macross/Robotech is my ultimate favorite anime series.
The below picture is only part of my vast DVD collection. There’s another cabinet I have of DVD’s that I wasn’t able to take a picture of.
VHS? Are you kidding? Nobody keeps and watches VHS anymore. That’s an ancient artifact.
Well…actually, I do have a few old VHS tapes still. But I no longer own a VHS player to play them. I have two special VHS tapes that I won’t get rid of. One is the movie STAR TREK The Undiscovered Country autographed by George Takei (Mr. Sulu) when I was at a convention long ago. The other is a special STAR WARS documentary titled “From STAR WARS to Jedi, The Making of a Saga” which to the best of my knowledge, has NEVER EVER been released on a DVD.
That’s what I thought until I learned my 23 year old coworker collects and watches vhs, so I looked into the percentage of the USA population that actively uses VHS and it was like 8% although I don’t recall the actual number but I think that’s correct. I am not one of those 8%.
I got my tech in 2010 and made extra in 2013.
I was quite into the orange vest no traffic for the net thing early on. I was net control every other Sunday for 4 years and attended every ECRT “Emergency Communications Response Team” I could meeting I could. And then I lost interest. I have one PSK contact and a couple dozen noon time nets check ins over a ten year period and that’s pretty much the extent of my radio activities. Turns out I do OK with a script but just shooting the breeze isn’t my style. And I never did figure out Q codes. Nor Morse code either. I did get 6 or so points in the 2013 Field Day event.
I have the full “World at War” series on VHS as well as the complete original Twilight Zone series. Haven’t seen them any other way. Still have 3, yes THREE fuctioning VHS machines, the issue is more likely going to be the tapes breaking down or losing data.
VHS, 5.25 floppy disc, cassette tapes - Never Forgotten……
Growing up my parents had a collection of records and 8 tracks. I remember very clearly when CD’s came out my dad said “ those will never take off” lol I had an Atari and a commodore64 as well. Fun times.
Reading is another hobby of mine. A few of my friends are a sort of book club. We’ll trade books and talk about our reads. I especially like military history and rock star stories with drug fueled stories and survival.
I used to joke when people asked if I had any hobbies: “Yeah…, guitars, guns, and gold. You got any?” But along with those, I like thrifting-4-resale, fishing, playing darts, and a little gardening. Metal detecting was a hobby at one time, too, but my knees dont like all the up and down that hobbies demands.
