Just curious to who else received this email earlier today? I was notified three different times today about fellow modelers accepting my friendship and the names are legit.
I talked to another fellow FSMer and he too received such emails and one was from me! When opened, it goes to a site essentially saying not found… So
I was unware of FSM getting into the act of a FSM chat line…[banghead] I have a feeling either somebody hacked into the system or I totally missed a thread on this… I know I have not been on here in a few months but geez…
Just thought I’d bring this to your attention… Sent Mr Voss a quick email on this as well
I have been getting the same thing. Most are from people that are in my e mail address book. I have even got some from members on this site that are not in my address book. Some one must be reading my mail. [:O]
Anyone contact the forum admins, to let them know?
Postscript
Easier said than done, I suppose. I looked for a while for any obivous means of contacting the admins (excluding hitting the “Report” button) and bring this to their attention. I wound up sending a PM to Mr. Skinner with the thread’s URL.
Hopefully there’s nothing serious going on, but if someone is spoofing or hacking, we need to alert the admins as soon as possible.
Sorry about that. The company was testing new Forum software that included an automated notification system that they didn’t realize was active immediately. The good news is it wasn’t an outside entity. It’s now been shut off and you can disregard the messages.
I hate to say this but you did a big No No in opening the link to the site on the email. If you receive email for something you have not signed up for you should NEVER open links as this is the number one way for spammers and theives to get to your money and personal info eg passwords.
Personally I would run every type of virus, spamware and malware checker I could on the computer now to try and find out if anything has been ‘left behind’ by the email/link.
Also, be carefull with emails and on Facebook. My daughter and my weife have been hit by this new virus called a “super worm” In theory it is not harmfull to your puter but what it does is you will recieve and emai lsuch as above or like my daughter got. It said "check who has been searching for you on FB. This is the worm! I deleated the link to the news page on MSN that wrote about it. Basicaly, when you click on the liks to open the emails or such, AND THEY WILL BE FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW!!! it automaticaly emails all your contacts using your name saying that YOU like this link and think they should check it out. It then takes you to a completley irrelevent and off topic web site trying to sell stuff. The worm is so smart that it makes its own birthday, friends list, and personal info on FB.
Spyware and anti virus is always good to do at least every other day.
