Monogram has reissued this kit along with the VTTBOTS Flying Sub several times in the past. The latest being 1996-97 time frame. I remember these old 1/72 scale Aurora sci-fi kits and have the Sub, UFO and now the Polar Lights Spindrift. Great kits. It’s also neat to see that there were other firsts besides Star Trek.

My Dad bought it from the local Meijer’s store in about 1972. We built it together. First model.
I suppose my first was the Revell Moonship (I think that is what it was called). Long gone now I think. It had a fully detailed interior and the canopy would go down flush with the fuselage. Now that would be about 40 years ago I suspect!!!
Hi all, been registered for a while and i’m an avid reader of the posting boards, just thought i’d introduce my self by answering this post. My first was the old IMAI thunderbird 2 kit (the one in green plastic with red legs and a removable pod) which i swiftly stuck together and stickered up ready for playing with without a care for paint or tarting up (seems oh so sacriligeous these days!). Great memories of some great kits, lets hope all the molds get re-tooled and the kits sold at reasonable prices!
X-Wing fighter. Spilled water on the decal sheet. Tried to paint on the red stripes. Spilled gloss red Testors enamel on the mantle. Butt was gloss red after pop saw it. Played with the model 'til the wings broke off. Glued the wings on a 79 Corvette. Used it to chase Lord Vader and his imperial Barracuda around the House Galaxy for years.
The models I could take or leave, It’s my childhood imagination I miss the most.

I was nine and I hate to say but I’m still cursing the makers of black cat firecrackers. Mine was the Cygnus from “The Black Hole” GOSH GOSH DARN DARN STUPID STUPID STUPID! I won’t give up even though i’ve lost now three times on e-bay. They must have faster computers or something. She will be mine again…someday. T.L.

Got mine today. Revell Star Trek Kazon ship. Never seen the show but saw it for a couple of dollars and figured it would be something different. SHould be an interesting build for me.
Funny you should mention the metal TV tray. For some reason when I think back to my early modeling days, the first thing that pops into my head is me building a 1/72 Heller clip wing spitfire on just such a tray. Memories[:)] As far as my first Sci-Fi kit, Enterprise for me as well.
Gosh, long time ago … either that Aurora Godzilla or the MPC X-Wing, although I seem to remember some of the old Universal monsters like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, and Dracula. Were those kits or am I remembering toys?
Mine too, Around 1973, if I remember correctly. Then came the Eagle Transporter from Space:1999, followed soon after by the Hawk
mine was a klingon cruiser, i was very young… unfortunatly, i build that one when my other hobby was M-80’s!!!
