I build in 1/72 scale simply because thats what I started out with as a kid and I just stuck to it. I’ve wandered to other other scales from time to time but I’ve pretty much settled on 1/72 because of price and space and I think I can still manage a pretty decent result.

hi…

My entire armor collection has been in 1/72 scale. I want to go into 1/35 more often, but I don’t have much room [:(].

1/35, I’ve never tried any other scale for armor.

1:16 is my favorite by far!!! Potential for super detailing,
challenge of making details rather than AM parts,
impressive size… Also a really well done & unique
model in 1:35 takes a lot of time & resources…
this approaches the same devotion I put into a
1:16 project & I have a bigger “Bang” for my
commitment.

Ah, if only 1/25 were the standard scale…not as unwieldy as 1/16, but much more presence than 1/35.
Unfortunately, there’s not much available kit-wise in 1/25, and even less in the way of aftermarket goodies.

Undoubtedly, 1/35 reigns supreme…but my fave is (would be?) 1/25.

I’m currently building in 1/72, but will eventually move up to 1/35. I’ve just returned to the hobby and figured I’d try the smaller scale first for a couple of reasons. First, as always is price (plenty of 5$ - or less - kits around) I figured if my rekindled interest was just a passing faze, the investment I’d made would have been relatively small. Secondly, I don’t yet have an airbrush and thought that the hand brush painting would be less obvious on a smaller subject with smaller surface areas. (See #1 above as to why I haven’t invested in an airbrush -but Christmas is coming and it’s on my list). I will switch over to 1/35 soon. I have found that I really do like this hobby - one in which I spent a good chunk of my youth. I recently purchsed several kits during a pretty good sale at Greatmodels.com. 1/35 provides very good detail and the larger parts will be easier for my fat fingers and aging eyes to handle. Sorry for rambling, but there it is.

Mine is 1/72 scale. I’ve been building in that scale exclusively for 34 years, both Aircraft and Armor.

These are the reasons why 1/72 scale is my favorite Armor scale:

  1. Consistency in scale with my Aircraft collection.
  2. Cost
  3. Simplicity of construction (except ACE kits!)
  4. Space saving
  5. Perfect wargame size

That’s why 1/72 scale is my favorite scale! [:D]

I prefer 35th scale because I think it’s more manageable. I’ve tried 72nd scale and been extremely frustrated with it. I would like to try a larger scale say 16th but since I haven’t won the lottery and I haven’t won FSM monthly sweepstakes it will be awhile.

1/35th scale is my preferred medium for three reasons:

  1. Kit subject diversity available

  2. Good space-to-detail ratio

  3. Ease of working with the parts

#3 is big, I have a difficult time with really tiny parts so 1/72 is something I generally avoid. [:D]

1/35, not too big, not too small

I like 1/72 scale. We live in a small house in town and space is a factor. You do not get as much detail as with the bigger scales but if you spend sometime on the kits they turn out nice. The aftermarket for this scale has a lot of items to choose from. They just are not widely known as the larger scales.

I like 1/25 becasue it’ s not quite as encumbering as 1/16 but big enough to show alot of great detail. 1/35 is OK but I just really like 1/25 for it’s slightly bigger presentation. I would love to see more armor subjects in this size. Other then Academy’s offerings I can’t find any others. Do you know of any?

Started in 1/48 Aurora,… scratch built in that scale for years. Then Matchbox came on the hobby scene in 1/76 . Finally Tamiya ushered in 1/35; which I built in until leaving the hobby many years ago.
Tamiya’s reintroduction of the 1/48 scale induced me back into the hobby.
Elements that contributed to that decision were:

1( Dimensional accuracy
2( Fidelity of detail
3( Ease of assembly
4( Investment cost
5( Display space
…And finally, range of kits available.
This last issue was a concern 6 months ago, but with the assurance of no less than a dozen new kits releasing between now and the end of the year, from a growing field of players that include Tamiya, SkyBow, Trumpeter, and Bandai thus far, with increased speculationt Dragon and AFV Club might try the scale too, I will likely have a source of new kits for the next year or two.

I’d have to say the scale I like most is 1/16 (or 1/18 and 1/24, though kits in these scales are even
rarer) due to the sheer amount of detail, both inside and out, you can put on a model of this scale. (of course,
if you’re skilled enough you can add loads of detail to any AFV kit, even 1/72 - but in 1/16 you can really see the
details).
However building a comprehensive collection of AFVs in this scale is impractical, due to the
size and limited number of subjects available as kits (and/or time and effort involved in scratchbuilding models of this size and complexity).

Therefore I’d have to say my favourite scale, in terms of the number of models I build, is definitely 1/35 - there are a colossal number of kits available, for virtually all subjects, and it’s a good balance between detail and size.

I also build small-scale (1/72 and 1/76) kits, as well as 1/144; building smaller models makes a nice change as you can
usually build the model “out of the box” without having to spend hours looking for reference photos and scratchbuilding details; when a model is a couple of inches long it doesn’t really matter so much that the wheels have the wrong number of spokes or that there’s no turret interior detail!
I actually have more built 1/72 and 1/76 models than 1/35 ones at the minute, though I (probably) have more unbuilt 1/35 kits.

1/48 seems like quite a good scale as well, in terms of detail/size, but it really doesn’t seem very good value to me at the minute, at least here in the UK. You either have to pay high prices for the old Bandai kits on eBay or at model shows,
or buy the new Tamiya kits, which whilst very good, are as much or more than their 1/35 equivalents here.

Well I’m 1/35 all the way, it’s the only scale I’ve done besides 1/24 -1/25 scale for me autos…I feel it’s just a good overall size, I am tempted to try a 1/48 Tiger or the Hetzer…anything smaller looks to my like dinky toys (sorry small scale builders, no offence![:I])

1/35 all the way. I find the size to be ideal. Good detail, relatively easy to paint, and I like the overal showing of the finished product. Just perfect.

1/35 is for me I have tryed thr smaller scales but found that there is not enough detail for me, thats not to say there ist detail. Also i find that the models are easyer to put together as the parts being larger. The other thing is there seems to be more add ons, or is that just me[#oops]

1/35 for me all the way been building in that scale for about seven years now, I tried 1/72 for one day, the next day I was working on 1/35 Panther.

1/35 ,… I like AM parts ,… can’t beat the selection in 1/35 here .
Big enough to have lots of detail and , not so large to eat up a whole display case .
