You know I wasn't sold on the whole 1/48th scale until....

I came across a picture of an M4A1 driving by a wrecked Ki-43 Oscar. If Tamiya would come out with the M34A1 (probably a stretch), there is the makings of a great dio. Even without the M34, the possibility is really intriguing

I know what you mean Jason. I’ve always left 1/48 to strictly aircraft but there are some intriguing armor kits coming out. I’ve got a picture of some Tigers in Russia sitting on the central steppe with Stukas. The picture is just sceaming at me to build!!!

Oh, now that REALLY sounds cool! Is that in a book?

Admittedly, I"m not really a great fan of the 1/48 scale, but the dio possibilities really are the one thing that could get me to cave in to this fad.

Even if you don’t put them in dios together, it’s still kind of neat to have air and ground elements in the same scale, just to get a better grasp of their comparative size. I’ve generally had 35th armor and 48th air, and its a bit difficult to get a mental picture of how they look in comparison to each other.

Now only if someone will do a Fletcher class destroyer in 1/48th scale …

Hey once I found out they were doing a Hetzer I was sold, besides anything new is a great Idea to me and now you you can do 1/48 dio’s even better.

Even if the 48th dio is ground-only stuff, I think they will look a bit better than 35th dios, as you can plausibly put more stuff on them without that cramped look some 35th dios have unless they have really big bases.

I have a desire to build a 1/48 kettenkrad towing a Me262. I saw it in a photo, and there’s good dio potential there as well![:P]

stuka- Tamiya makes a nice 262 with the kettenrad right in it!

It’s just too bad that they’ve got Tamiya styled pricing. Of course that’s still better than Eduard’s 1/72 level pricing.

But the Tamiya stuff sure looks great. Maybe someday, if DML will stop putting ‘gotta have’s’ on the market so fast!

Jason, sorry it took so long to answer. The picture is in Ian Baxter’s “German Armored Warfare Of WWII: The Unpublished Photos” It’s a killer ref book.

No problem at all. I appreciate the pic!

My pleasure!! This book has photo’s that are soooo cool. Stuff I haven’t seen anywhere else. Just some superb stuff from the Eastern front. Also alot from the Serbian theatre and Caucuses(?) There’s even a picture of a StugIII in the Bulgarian Army!!

Speaking of boats, I see that Revell has a 1/48 Vietnam era US river patrol boat, if we had some 1/48 vietnam era armor, that will make a great dio.

Why not have 1/35 scale aircraft? Some of the chopper manufacturers have the right idea there.

Then of course you could have dioramas in Normandy with Lightning/Typhoon or whatever attacking the Tamiya Tiger. WIth Planes and Tanks all in the same scale the opportunities are endless.
On another note, is O guage 1/48th too?

I should start saving up!![:p]

O scale is 1/48 in the US, but 1/43 in the UK.

I just picked up the 1/48 Sherman & the Stug, should be very interesting.

ive seen a good photo of some shermans driving near a ME110 nightfighter, it made the sherman look small

Try Ebay. I just got Tamiya’s M8 and the Verlinden Exterior and Interior set 9about $55 USD at Greatmodels for $33.50. Unfortunately I am now an Ebay junkie
