YF-75 Merlin

The F-22 replacement.

Is this for real? pretty realistic / imaginative if not.

It’s like a Raptor has mated with an XB-70/SR-71 or XB-70/M21-D21 half breed.

Nice kithack! What did you use from what?

I love it! Tell us more! Tell us more! [:P]

The bases is the Testors SR-75 Penetrator. I shorten the length of the fuselage, added a cockpit tub from a 1:48 scale F-100 with a canopy from a 1:48 F-18. I scribed in new wheelbay locations to a more conventional setup.

I cut free the control surfaces so they are positionable. They are pinned with short pieces of wire so they can be repositioned as desired. I had intended on opening up the weapons bays and one of the engines (converted from a 4 burner to only two) and adding the landing gear and wells. I have templates of the interior made, just decided to finish it as is and move on to something else.

The next time I find another one of these kits cheap, I’ll probably pick it up to continue the project, this is the second kit bash of this model I’ve done. The first being one that I shortened and made it into a two seater versus a three yet keeping it to 1:72 in scale.

Reworking simple kits like these are a way to be creative and develop modeling skills to help with scratch building and conversion of those actual aircraft you want to tackle yet don’t have the experience to do so.

Gotta say love the paint scheme. But that leads me to a question…how did you do the “feather” look and can you give us a close up of it?
