Yesss!!! Classic Airframes Bf109A

I think I need some therapy… [:-^]

I just picked up another Classic Airframes Bf109D from my LHS (High Sierra Models).

I just love Classic Airframes early 109 kits! Just wish I could get my hands on a couple more of the 109A, but not for what I had to pay for the first one. [B)]

The prices on a tiny 109A can’t be that bad “not counting my hobby shop”.[:-^]I’d be careful buying one on ebay you might have to pay another arm and leg.

Any chance I could work out a deal with you to get that 109A from your local hobby store? [;)]

Sorry I checked yesterday and its sadly long gone.someone got to it first[V]

Aha!! have you checked classic airs web? they have all there stuff for sale.

The reason I’m having to go through extra-ordinary measures to get the Bf109A is because it was a limited run kit and sold out very quickly last year. All the websites and hobby stores I’ve checked have been out of stock for at least 6 months. It’s pretty much the same story with the D, there are only a handful left out there (managed to get the last one from my LHS earlier this week). [:(]

That’s why I had to resort to e-bay… in fact I’d been checking on e-bay for almost 6 months with no luck until that A finally showed up, which I won for $83.35 including shipping.

Wow I thought someone could get a tiny 109A for 20.00 bucks from classic airframes I didn’t know they would now be that much[]I guess 109A from that hobby shop was a good deal.

What makes them so special is that they’re the most accurate early Bf109 kits ever made, come with resin cockpits and other resin parts, and a slew of photo etched parts as well. They’re in 1/48 scale, so they’re not that small (although I suppose they’re small compared to other 1/48 scale planes). And when they only make them in small quantities, the demand for them exceeds the supply.

I think they retailed for around $35 when they were available on the store shelves. Now, because of their rarity, the prices have skyrocketed on the few that are up for sale.

You might want to sell yours in 10 years[;)]you’d probaly get half a billion dollers or a hundred.

I know, I was telling my wife the other night that I should have snatched up the 109A kits when they were on the shelf at my LHS, which would have made the couple that I would have kept free to me! [:D]

Live and learn, although I’d have a tough time taking a lot of money from a fellow modeller, I don’t know if I could take advantage that way, if you know what I mean. These kits are meant to be built and enjoyed. [8D]

Ahh I was just joking once you have a great kit you should build it.[(-D]

heh heh, it is tempting [;)]

Seriously though, I wish I had about 4 or 5 of the A kit… no, I’m not obsessed… [;)]

To bad there not as common as a revell kit.[sigh]I bet anyone would be lucky to get there hands on a 109A now. What you need is a time machine.[:-^]

Sigh… I’d really like several more so I can build a range of the prototypes. I want to do V1, the very first with the Rolls Royce Kestral motor, and a couple of the racers, like the one that was painted Bordeaux, V13 or 14 if I remember correctly.

If anyone happens to see the kit at their local LHS, PM or e-mail me if you’d like me get my hands on a few more. [bow]

Carefull what you wish for. Looke here!

Now whatcha gonna do.

Hopefully nobody else on the forums is bidding on it. Otherwise one of us is going to have to pay a butt load of money! [:O]

muwahahahahaaaaaa $52! [oX)]

Congratulations Scott. I was watching that today, no I can’t bid being overseas. I wondered if you would get it. Now that makes an average of about $65 per kit, not bad for how much did you say that originally cost [(-D]

I was watching that action also. Glad to see you snagged it. Now you only need about three more to do all of the early versions. This could get expensive.

I was really suprised I got it for $52. I was expecting to pay around $70+ again. I had almost totally forgotten about the auction because I had won two Hobbycraft kits earlier in the day (Bf109C and D). I was watching TV with my wife and happened to look at the time when it hit me that the auction was ending in a few minutes. I bolted into my den and fired off my bid. Whew! that was close!

So now I have:

2 x Classic Airframes Bf109A (technically there was no A variants in the true sense, although that is been used to describe the first 3 prototypes V1, V2 and V3, and B-01, B-02 etc applies to V-4, V-5 etc.)

2 x Classic Aiframes Bf109D

1 x Hobbycraft Bf109B

1 x Hobbycraft Bf109C

1 x Hobbycraft Bf109D

I’m making V-4 from one of the A kits.

I want to make V-14
(the one painted in Burgundy flown by Udet at the Zurich meet with the DB Rennmotor in it… at first glance it looks like I’ll need to graft an early E nose to an early A or B kit, with modifications, or heavily modify and early E perhaps either my Tamiya or Hasegawa kits)

Staege’s Bf109B late (Hobbycraft) - Condor Legion

Gotthard Handricks Bf109D (Classic Aiframes) Condor Legion

Werner Molders Bf109D (Classic Aiframes) Condor Legion

White 3 Bf109D Luftwaffe (Hobbycraft)

Shark mouth Bf109C Lufwaffe (Hobbycraft)

It would be nice to make V-1 as well, but I’m not sure how to handle the very unique cowling as it used a Rolls Royce Kestral engine in it.

If I can figure out how to make V-1, then I’ll feel satisfied that I will have made a decent representation of all the early Bf109D and early variants.

Don’t even get me started on my plans for the E, F, G, K, T etc. [:-^]
