Yeager's MiG??

Does anyone have pictures of chuck Yeager’s MiG 15??? I have the Trumpeter 1/32 MiG 15 and I want to do it in USAF Markings as the expatriot MiG from Korea Yeager test flew.

That aircraft had several different markings during it’s test life at Kadena and after it came to the US at Edwards, Nellis and Wright Pat. I am not sure at which point Yeager flew it or even the specific time frame for that matter. I always thought that the North Korean pilot defected with that plane during the Korean War, but I was reading the other day that it occured in 1955 or 1956. I am confused now.

There was an article published in the March 06 issue of FSM in which this aircraft was modelled using the Tamiya 1/48 Mig 15 as a basis.

There is a photo of a Mig-15 in USAF markings here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mig-15.

They also describe the defection that yardbird mentioned as occuring in 1953. I know the USAF Museum in Dayton, OH had alot of information on this incident and photos in the museum. At one time I think they were also on their website but the reformated and I can’t find any now. You may have better luck on their site then me: http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil

Found some more photos here:

Derekms- thats the Yeager MiG. I’ve found a bunch of b/w photos from Edwards on a site devoted to Yeager. But no color. I wish I had the March '06 issue, but that seems to be the only '06 issue I DONT have.

If anyone can scan that article and email it to me, I would forever be in your debt.

Viper, Go to the FSM site and place and order from the dept that handles the back issues. I,m sure they would have copies available.

The Mig pilot defected in 1953, I’ve met him. His name is No Kum-Sok, though he goes by the name Kennneth Rowe now. I just happen to be good friends with his youngest son, who works right up the road at Robins AFB.

Mr. Rowe wrote a book about his experiences, “A MiG-15 to Freedom”, which is in its fourth printing now (and he didn’t belive anyone would want to read about it). ISBN 0-7864-0210-5. If you want one, you’d better get it quick. It has photos of the plane, number 2057.

I’m building a 1/48 MiG-15 for my buddy, too.
