ruddratt- Thanks so much- yeah, it’s a great kit. I’ll probably do another one and add the skis this time.
smokinguns2- Thanks- this is my first Russian bird.
RadMax8- Polly Scale! I used USSR underside blue, US Tac Mid Green and Grimy Black. The masking was plain old blue masking tape. For the interior I used US Light Ghost Gray.
jwb me and my dad built it and it didnt seem very good, ie tight fit of pit, other fit issues. Didnt seem very good are yu sure it’s the same kit? very good job. [tup][tup]
Great looking Yak, job. I appreciate your thoughts about the kit as I, too, would like to do a few Soviet “Great War” planes. Your build is encouraging. Great looking finish…it looks like Polyscale Clear Flat from here…my favorite.
BTW, can you post a pic of the underside. I’d like to take a good look at the underside blue.
Dubau- Thanks so much. That Pi-51A is a pretty sweet kit- I do like AM.
Ranger2Seven- Thanks. I have the Eduard La-5 Weekend Edition in the stash, and I’m looking forward to that build.
Butz- Thanks man! You’ll enjoy the build.
ygmodeler4- Thanks so much. I did have some issues with the cockpit, but I’m pretty forgiving. If it goes together well for the most part, I enjoy it. I detailed a bit more of the build on my blog.
mucker- Thanks! I actually used that rattle can Testors stuff to dull it out. I’ll post a pic of the underside- I had some staining issues with the wash, but it wasn’t too bad.
Thanks, Jon. Underside staining would be a normal appearance on any given airplane , and I’ve seen many pictures of some very dirty Soviet planes, so don’t think anything of it. I can’t wait to see the pics.
gatormark91- Thanks for the kind words. Believe it or not, I hand painted them. I just blobbed in the white paint with a 000 brush, then used the same brush to dab in the red and black paint. This left it a little rough. So I cleaned it up using a home-made brush that is a single cat whisker super glue into the end of a wooden skewer. (No I am not making it up, and no cats were harmed in the process…[;)]) The whisker brush is fine enough to get very fine lines, stiff enough to not bend if you don’t want it to, but pliable enough to bend if you do want it to. I used black paint and the feline brush to paint the little lines and do some cleanup work around the rough edges. I put a drop of wite glue in the gauge, popped in the clear cover, and I was done!
1/72- Thanks so much! Actually, next up is a P-40C AVG Bird, then a Spitfire Mk. IX, then a P-39, and a Spitfire F. 22/24- all for various GBs. Then maybe I’ll pull that -109G14 outta the stash! [:)]
