ok, i like building foreign kits, and i thought i would try a russian fighter. any good kits in 1/48?
I asked the exact same questions a few months back and the answer I got was that the only one was made by ICM. I ended up with a Yak 7D.

Sparse on the detail… fit was not too bad in most places but some work is needed in other. The vast majority of the work spent on mine was thinning parts like the edges of air intakes and LG doors to a more scale appearance. On mine the plastic was fairly soft it carves very smooth and nice. Cockpit detail…. Well there isn’t much. I did not add anything at all since it was done for the out-of-the-box group build. It ends up OK in the end. If you are used to building only Hasegawa and Tamiya… it sure as heck is a far cry from one of them!
Try the Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 series. They all build up into very nice models. The Eduard Yak-3 Profipack kit is good as well. If you’re feeling especially masochistic, you could try a Classic airframes Mig-3. It builds up into a cool model, but it’s a LOT of work.
These kits might be OOP, but I’ll bet you can locate them at a model show or on ebay.
Good luck!
thanks you guys, ill look into those
yak yak yak yak[(-D]
the icm yak 9 is ok not up to tam or has but a good solid base to improve on
i got 4 of them in my stash
try the Eduard yak-3 it’s the closest thing to “shake-and-bake” for WWII Soviet in 1/48th
the Hobbycraft/Academy La-7 and I-16 are also quick and easy builds.
