Yak-1 interior

I’ve been researching my next build- an Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 (with skis… yeah!). (If I can ever finish this P-47 and Spitfire that have become so drawn out…)

After spending a reasonable amount of time researching what the interior tubing/components) color was, I’ve narrowed it down to these most likely candidates:

  • Something a little more grayish than RAF interior green
  • Something a little more grayish than Russin underside blue
  • Something made up of interior green, underside blue and gray

Then there are the caveats for the interior fueslage walls (verusus the interior tubing/components):

  • Go with the same color as with the interior tubing
  • Silver
  • Wood finish

I’m pretty good “Googling”, but the best I can find of actual color photos of a Yak-1 interior are restorations- and they show somehting close to RAF interior green.

The finish I think looks most interesting is the fuselage interior being wood with a bluish color for the rest. Of course- I wonder would a plane have gone to the line without some sort of protective finish for the interior?

Which leads me to maybe the bluish color for the whole deal, simply because- well, it’s different.

I’ve even read some sources that say RLM02, but some folks emphatically oppose that over at Modeling the VVS.

So anyway- anyone else done some research that could help? Especailly helpful would be suggestions for Pollyscale or Tamiya Acrylics. And of course- pics. [;)] (I’ve got some… happy to share…)

I built the 1B. Same kit with different decals. I don’t have any pics or sooth for you about the right color interior but I’ll tell you what I did. Mixed a little neutral gray and duck egg blue until I thought it looked about right and sprayed tube framing and the side walls all the same color. Correct? Probably not. Less stress? Sure. That was the very first Russkie subject I had ever painted and I had no clue what was right or wrong. I did the same thing in the more recent build, the I-16 but I made it a little more blue. I’m happy with it.

edit to correct: I lied. I built the Eduard Yak 1b. Same kit as AM but with PE.

Yep- Yak-1 with skis! That’s the one.

Little known fact… Originally they were called Yakkity Yaks. Really. [;)]

Seriously- if you’ve got some shots you could scan- that’d be great!

There are a LOT of B&W some color.
