YADQAF (yet another dumb question about Future)

OK, so I’ve finished painting my A-10 (Model Master enamels), and after some drying time, I’m gonna hit it with a couple of light coats of Future via airbrush to prep for decalling.

Having never used Future before, I want to make sure I don’t overdo it. That being said, my dumb question is this: can you tell the areas you’ve already Futured?

In other words, if you’re painting, say, a light color over a dark color, you can immediately see where you’ve painted the light color. But because Future is clear, can you tell as easily? Are the Futured areas more immediately glossy? How do you know when you’ve applied a sufficient coat? Any tips for preventing runs or too thick of a coat?

Thanks!

PB

The Future will look glossy and wet. The 1st coats will loose some of the shine as it dries but will get shinier with each coat. If you hold the model at an angle to catch a reflection off the Future as it sprays on the surface, that can help guide you so you don’t lay down to heavy a coat in one spot.

Make sure you have good lighting, and make sure that some of it is shining sideways across the model so that you get good raking illumination. This will help you see the gloss, but it will also help you see the paint cone coming from the air brush, which will help you judge how much is hitting the surface. This is especially useful with double action airbrushes.

Thanks, guys.

As far as I can tell, I Futured without any disasters. I reckon I’ll know for sure when it fully dries.

Next: paint 3,850 bombs and missiles.
