Here’s one I built a few years ago from the 1/48 Testors Ryan PT-20 kit. I spent about five bucks on the kit and used about a third of a sheet of Bare Metal Foil to do this sweetie.
It was a very quick build even with the rigging. The foil was a piece of cake to put down - I used a round toothpick as my burnishing tool. The cowling was the same foil as the fuselage I just brushed it with some steel wool to change the tone. The yellow was probably the toughest thing to do on this. All together I have less than ten bucks and about 15 hours involved in this one.

When I think of decent deals in models, the ICM 1/48 Spitfire kits are usually the first thing into my mind.
I picked one up for a little over 20 dollars Canadian a few years back, it was sitting beside a 1/48 Spit by Tamiya that was more than double the cost of the ICM kit.
I saw that same Tamiya kit out of the box not long after and I relaized what a deal I got; I spent lless than half the maoney and got nearly twice the detail!
Thats not slamming the Tamiya Spit, it was a beauty of a kit too. Just pushing home the virtues of shopping around a bit.
I’m with ya on that one Swanny. I went with MM Metalizer rather than the foil, but yes indeed it was an efficient build. One of those small inexpensive projects you can do while waiting for a replacement part of something else on another project.
The JB-2 Loon (US version of German V-1) is another quick build that can be done as an inexpensive filler. I did this puppy while waiting on a lost part for my Avenger.
Had to go with the red over the OD version. I mean really, “I’ve got an Olive Drab Rocket” just doesn’t carry the same effect. [:D]
I was able to pick up several ICM models very cheaply thru one of the banner advertiser here on this one site. I think with shipping they averaged out around $8.00 each. I have not actually put any of them together yet, but from what I have heard and seen in the boxes they fairly decent.
Without double checking the Rules of engagement for the site I am reluctant to name the store. But it is a Banner advertiser here, as a matter of fact that is how I came across their site. Both of my orders were processed very quickly. Very happy with their service as well as thei product and price. Later on, after I re-read the rules I might post the name.
Those ICM kits definitly have a lot of bang for the buck. If you are talking 1/48 ICMs at $8 each after shipping then that is an exceptional deal.
I picked up in two orders a total of 11 items:
5 1/48 scale airplanes
3 1/72 scale airplanes
2 1/35th scale tanks
1 set 1/48 scale ground crew
Total bill was just under $80.00, it would have been less if I had ordered it all at once.
