x-21 dullcoat

I test painted this on an old figure, and it dried a milky white layer, that somewhat rubs off when you rub it with your finger. What is wrong?
It was stirred up completely.
How do you do dullcoat with your figures or armoured vehicles

Tamiya X-21? That is not a dullcoat. It is a flat base and is intended to be mixed with other paints to make them flat or semi-gloss. Don’t use it straight. Sorry[:(]

Use a clear flat. Like ModelMaster Acryl clear flat, or mix Future floor wax with your X-21 about 1:1 for a real flat finish.

You can also mix Tamiya X-21 Flat Base with Future. 10:1 (Future:Base) gives a semi-gloss or satin finish. 5:1 a pretty decent flat finish, and 3:1 a real flat finish. I haven’t tried it with a hand brush though, only through an airbrush.
