WWII Weekend in Reading, Pa.

The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s WWII Weekend in Reading, Pa. is this weekend, June 3, 4, 5. [ap] Going to make sure the camera batteries are charged up so I can take lots of photos. Anyone else going? I know it is like finding a needle in a haystack but I’ll be wearing a black cap with “U.S.S. Enterprise CVN 65”. Hope to see some of you there.

Jim [cptn]

Wont be there (geographical constraints) wish i could go though, really keen to see their P-61 for real.

Got to go to Reading last year. It was in April and I got to look over the P-61 and was amazed at the sight of it. It is one of those planes that I always imagined as being bigger than it actually is.

Damn it! I was supposed to go this year but things came up…like my mortgage payment [:D] Im a union telecom worker and our contract is up in August...gotta put some $$ away...dont want to say the “S” word but its a possibility. Im going next year no matter what…have to see it once before the end of the world in 2012…[;)]

What an awesome time it is. What’s nice this year is that “FiFi” is supposed to be there. I’ve been there the past couple of years and it’s always a blast. We’ll see what this weekend brings…

Jim, you think you’ll be the only one wearing a Big-E cap?? haha

Mike

Hi fox, a few of my friends are headed to Reading. Unfortunately I have other plans, would like to be there though.

Should be a great expo…

Take plenty of pics, would enjoy your views…

Bill

I really would like to see the P-61, that must be one heck of a sight, but I plan on attending a local air show. The http://ag1caf.org/ Wings Over Gillespie Air Show to see the line-up of cats, Sentimental Journey and all wounderful sounding round engines.

You got me there Mike. Maybe I should pick out a better one from my little collection. Come to think of it, all the ones I have were made in the millions. No stand outs. Have to come up with something else.

Jim [cptn]

Where are the PICS… Jim ?

Bud

Hi Bud, I’m working on the pics as we speak. Should have them on the forum in a little while. Didn’t get good ones of planes in the air, but think the ones on the ground are OK for an el-cheapo camera. Glad you’re back on the forum.

Jim [cptn]

OK, here’s the pics from Reading. I was working at the IronAviator booth all day and we took turns getting out to look around the show so didn’t take lots of photos but hope I got some good ones. Got a little bit of everything. Got planes, cars, jeeps, trucks, motorcycles and 1 tank. It was the only one I saw.

Hope they come through OK, been having lots of problems with Photobucket lately.

Jim [cptn]

Looks like you had a GREAT time, with i could have been there, maybe next year.

Bud

Thanks for the pics, Jim!

My dad and I were there on Friday, weather was beautiful, sunny but not hot, much more comfortable than last year. Though, my forehead is now peeling from the sunburn [:D]

I took only 28 pics, but don’t have them uploaded yet. I decided this year to take more pics of the reenactors this time, than of the aircraft-for one thing, almost all of the aircraft there this year have been there for the past few years. Except for the CAF’s “Fifi”, of course, which was a treat to see. Not as big as I thought a B-29 would be, though. And I gave up taking pictures of the reenactors, because I was engrossed in talking with them and listening to the talks. But for anyone who’s never been, I recommend it.

I also hit the vendor area this year, first time I ever had, and I was really struck by the number of vendors selling kits. 4 Monogram B-36 kits in one large carton! Another vendor had a large selection of new/recent kits, with a “buy one, get one free” deal on many of them. Even for his kits marked at $40, that meant you’d get 2 at $20 each. Not bad on some of the Hasegawa and Tamiya kits, and about what you’d pay for some of them in a bricks-and-mortar store.

Best regards,

Brad

I was working Saturday at the IronAviator booth which was right next to the “Pin-ups” booth. If you got down that way you would have seen the crowd at their booth which, lucky for us, saw most of the people leave in our direction and stop at our booth. They were a barrel of fun. I have a couple of pics with two of them. My buddy sent them to me in an e-mail. All I have to do is figure out how to get them from there to the forum. Maybe by this evening. I talked to a lot of the reenactors too. The SS officers in the white jackets were very interesting. Got a chance to use my very limited German that I learned in high school. There was also a gentleman from Spain in a Spanish officers uniform. My buddy is originally from Spain so they had a nice conversation.

I checked out the vendors too. I was really tempted at the one with the “buy one get one free”. The only problem was that my eyes were bigger than my wallet. Talked to a few model builders while there but no Forum members. My buddy ended up getting a 1/48 B1-B for $30.

Maybe I’ll see you there next year.

Great pics Jim, thanks for sharing

Hopefully will be able to make it next year…

Pin-ups Girls, Pin-ups Girls, Pin-ups Girls

I think that’s all we are going to hear from Jim for a LONG time…

Bud

For any other horny old guys who might have missed them–but how could you have, I ask?, here’s their website:

http://www.warbirdpinups.com/index.php

Looks like their roster has changed since last week, though. One of the girls who was at Reading last year, Kacie, no longer shows in the “Our Models” gallery, she was my favorite.

Best regards,

Brad

I stand corrected on their roster…Kacie was never in the 2011 list, she was in the 2010 list. Difficult research, but I felt duty-bound to carry out it, to help you all [;)]

Nice Link Brad

Bud

Brad - Thanks for the link.Us old coots need some eye candy once in a while to keep the old blood flowing. [;)] I think the ones in the booth next to us were a different group. They don’t look like the ones in your link.

Bud - I got a copy of their 2012 calender signed by 3/4 of them plus 2 extra pics that Damian took of me with 2 of them. I’ll show them to you at the next meeting.
