Can anyone confirm or deny if there were any all yellow painted AT-6/SNJ/Harvards during WWII?
I’ve seen many post war examples with this training scheme, however I have yet to uncover any second world war yellow painted “Texans” with my scant research materials covering this aircraft.
By the references I have, Navy SNJs trainers were NMF with upper portion of wings orange-yellow, or as an utility aircraft was camo the same as the assigned aircraft. My ref was Squadron in Action # 94 and US Navy Aircraft Camouflage & Markings 1940-1945. The only aircraft during WWII that were yellow were target tugs and the SNJ/AT-6 were not used in that capisatity. As you stated the overall yellow sceme was not used unitl the late 40s thru early 50s on trainers.

If you’re specifically looking for SNJs I can’t help you too much but there were a ton of all yellow Harvards buzzing around Canada during the second world war.

I’ve seen a few WWII overall yellow schemes on the lend/lease versions. I might have to go that route in order to get both the scheme I want, and the WWII provenance.
