WWII German uniform color help please

Hans, nice reading you have written… I am starting reenactment pretty soon myself! Going SAS first off. Then a LSSAH Sturmpionere uniform later on [:)]

Anyways, back on topic. When soldiers got they’re boots (and webbing? Can’t be sure on that) it came leather brown. They had to use their shoecream which was standard issue to make them black. This was also mandatory.

However, in 1943, or '44, they stopped issuing shoecream to the troops. So many wore leather brown boots (And webbing?? Still can’t be sure… anyone?). If they wished to have it black, they had to buy some shoecream… So that’s just another little detail [;)] Everything else is pretty well explained.

HVS, I was doing some research on German military colors and came across your fantastic explanation of German WW II reanactors. Three years later and much appreciation.

Thank You

Scott

When I was station at El Toro in the late 80’s, I joined the California WW-II reenactment group and was a member of the 12th SS HJ unit and I had a blast! I met people from all kinds of professions and we all had one thing in common, the love of WW-II history. Now one of our unit members owned an original 1943 Kubalwagan in SS marking and he was Jewish. You can just imagine the grief he got from family and friends but his reply was that the German uniforms and equipment were much cooler! I must have taken a few thousand pics to use later as reference photos for model dios and as a paint guide for figures.
