WWII Antennae fittings

G’day all,

Just wondering if anyone can help, I want to add antennae wire to my Messerschmitt and have noticed on other models there is some sort of tensioning bit “if that is what you call it” on both sides, one near the antennae and the other neat the tail. Does anyone know what these things are called? Also how can they be replicated, or is there a photo etch that is available?

Cheers Zapme

I don’t think it has a name, its just the attachment point. I can’t say i have ever seen it detailed, just the aerial wire fitted.

Don’t know if there is any official name, we always just called them antenna springs. In US airplanes it is usually a small compression spring trapped in metal clips. About 3/8 inch in diameter or so.

Thanks for that John, do you know does anyone fabricate these antennae springs in 1/48 scale as this would finish off the model nicely.

Cheers Leo

Check this page out for making your own tension springs. It’s pretty easy. Also, you are probably referring to the insulators on the wire as well. A drop of white glue will create a bead to simulate the insulator. After drying, you can paint it.
