WW2 Rocket color

Gang, I’m building this little F4U Corsair and the instructions have no suggestions as to what color the rockets under the wings should be. Weren’t these things usually just some kind of silver in color? No need to be super accurate since this is just a test model. Thanks.

Rockets used in the Pacific by planes like the Corsair and Hellcat were the 5 inch HVARs… looking at my pictures-- they appear to be white with a thin yellow band around the nose…however-- this is a drawing and what appears to be white may actually be silver…

If you go to this page: (one of my favorites for weapon info)

http://www.ww2guide.com/bombs.shtml

About the middle of the page is info on rockets…and there is a pic of them loading the HVARs onto a fighter and it looks like bare metal to me…

There was no standard color. Some 5" HVAR’s were natural metal with OD warheads. Some had the tip of the warhead painted yellow and some had a yellow stripe behind the warhead. The rockets were sometimes painted OD with silver warheads with a yellow tip. Some warheads were painted yellow with a red tip ( WP’s). I have even seen pictures with red warheads and natural metal tubes. I think these were special rockets used for heavy armor or trains.
